Was it a Polar? Had you recently changed its battery? Sure seems like not putting all the screws in was asking for trouble.
I had a helluva time finding a battery for my Polar F4 and finally got one (I swear it was like the Search for the Holy Grail, it was that difficult), and “battery replacement” is considered an authorized repair you can do yourself (according to Polar website). So I finally get the damned battery changed, got the rubber gasket carefully re-positioned, (even used a magnifying light like at jewlery store) and darned if the stupid watch fills with water at last week’s race!
I went ahead and got another one, same model, but this time paid the $9.99 for the extended warranty at Sports Authority— thay said they will replace the whole shebang if the battery geos out w/in the next yr.
My point is, if it is a Polar, I am curious about its user-friendliness when it comes to battery repair. Does Timex make a HRM?
Yes, Timex makes a HRM. I had the same problem that Newbz had (except I had all 4 screws in) and Timex replaced the watch at a reduced cost. The only reason I had to pay at all was because I had done the battery change myself but didn’t pay enough attention. I just changed the battery on my watch last week and no worries this time.
so replacing the battery should do it?
No, once the water gets in the lcd screen it kind of screws it. Replacing the battery is often how the watches get ruined. I had to get a new watch portion.
probably trashed but if you want to give it a try, open the case up, take out the electronics, douse liberally with rubbing alcohol, dry very very very well, maybe use a hair dryer or in the oven at 200deg for a bit (no gurantees here), new battery and you never know…
