HR creep

I’ve been following my own version of Dr. Maffetone’e method for long distance training. For my long runs I try to keep my HR in the range of about 155-165 bpm. I have no problems doing this for about 1/2 hour. Unfortunately after 1/2 hour, at the same effort (i imigaine anyway. It feels like the same effort) my HR climbs until the same pace yields a HR of 175+ at the end of say, 1.5 hours. Is this kind of HR creep inevitable or is it a sign of dehydration problems? FYI - I sweat like a pig and dehydration is always an issue for me.

Anyone have any advice? Should I calibrate my whole effort based on my HR for the 1st 1/2 hour or should I be a slave to the HR monitor all through the run and reduce my pace accordingly?

It may be what is generally referred to as “cardiac drift.” But that seems like a lot of drift.

There were some extensive cardiac drift and zone training debates a number of months back. Have look at them via the search, as summing the various positions would result in unnecessary editorializing (and possibly further demonstrate where my logic erred on this subject).

Anyway, sounds like cd but that is a lot of drift. Are you living in and training in a hot and humid climb? Might explain more.
