How Y’all, Youse and You Guys Talk

I’m from Kansas.

Mine shows Louisville, KY which is very close to where I grew up in Southern Indiana.

Checks out. 2 of the most similar cities were Ft.Wayne, IN and Toledo. I grew up exactly halfway between them.

LOL I got Oklahoma City, Amarillo TX, and Little Rock!

I grew up in Central KY and lived in IN for 15 years. I must’ve been overthinking it. I have been told I was “twangy” as a kid, and then spent a lot of energy in college trying not to sound like I was southern.

After 25 questions I hope they’d be close. And unsurprisingly they were.

Jackson, MS; Columbus, GA and Richmond, VA

Not bad. I grew up in Richmond (K → college) and all my family lives there.

I grew up in the Syracuse, NY area so surprised it gave me more of a downstate/NYC/Jersey result but the Central New York area is bright red too.

After the first attempt - it was not even close. So, I took again. Interestingly, there were different questions the second time.

With the second attempt it was closer, but placed me with Rochester and Buffalo. One would think me using ‘soda’ and not ‘pop’ would be an auto disqualifier for Buffalo. Pie and Pop in Buffalo - to me is pizza and soda. Even Rochester it is almost all Pop.

Grew up in Delaware so it couldn’t have been more zeroed in.

Had me between Rockford, Toledo, and Fort Wayne which pretty much surround where I grew up juts outside of Chicago. In fairness, my word choices and pronunciation have been heavily impacted by 30 years in the Navy and moving around quite a lot, so it’s interesting to still get that localization.

Question 13 is most localizing, if you grew up in Michigan.
Pop and Devil’s Night, I’m very Michigan but haven’t lived there in 19 years.

It should have asked if we knew Benny Mardones. That would have dialed in Syracuse as the most likely answer.

I got Toledo, Ft. Wayne, Grand Rapids and grew up in the Finger Lakes region.

had me in general South, nothing specific. I’m from Alabama. Shouldn’t have taken 25 questions to peg me in within a 6 state area. Lol.

I got Grand Rapids/Toledo/Detroit. I live just outside Grand Rapids and spent my middle and high school years in the Detroit media market, so pretty much dead on. I seem to have left my Chicago suburbs childhood behind.

Halloween: the day you need to buy more candy, eggs, and TP.

that is such a super specific result there.

i didn’t take a screenshot, but mine was the entire US yellow/orange/red…with darker red encompassing TN, Carolinas over to ARK, LA and FL. So basically all of south east, but all other states were orange/yellow.

Sort of makes sense though as I have moved around a lot in my life and travelled all over. I’ve made special efforts to not use “ya’ll” as a young kid and long ago transitioned from using “coke” to refer to all carbonated drinks.

Devil’s Night is also very specific.
