Is it possible to wear it under a wetsuit during a race or will that kill it?
Totally waterproof. Everyone does it.
I’ve never had an issue. Wear it for every race.
Accidently sent mine through the washer on a few occasions and it held up fine.
all good, one note though mine took at least 20min to find my actual heart rate after T1 in my most recent race.
Mine has gone through the wash and works fine
.
I wouldn’t dive with it, but swimming is no problem. Lots of folks have them under their trisuit or wetsuit art races.
I wear my every race.
Considering the amount of sweat I see dripping off mine after indoor roller sessions I’d say “very”.
I’ve had them fail and when I’ve opened it up there was corrosion on the contact popper studs and internally,
so now after each workout I disconnect it from the HRM strap and rinse with fresh water then dry it out.

Technically, the Garmin heart rate straps are rated at 3 ATM. Which means:
Suitable for everyday use. Splash/rain resistant. NOT suitable for showering, bathing, swimming, snorkelling, water related work and fishing.
But, everybody in the world swims with theirs on, and it always survives. Personally, I think Garmin went super-soft on their rating here, because it doesn’t work while swimming, and they don’t really want people swimming with it. I’d bet it would test 5 (or 10) ATM.
If they made HRMs that could transmit in water, that would be great, but waterproof is nice. I’m with the rest, always wear mine under my wetsuit, no problems.
Put mine in washing machine. Still worked.
Finally sweated through my HRM after 6 years and it literally broke in half (older style HRM). That probably includes 50+ times wearing it in the water for race or brick session.
