How un-aero is the litespeed saber?

Considering picking one up, just wondering how un-aero it is.

Newer (2006) frame…

you have a p3sl, the fastest metal frame out there and considerably faster than even the most modern carbon bikes.

JFR

False, I sold it.

  1. I couldn’t get it to fit me, even with an 80 stem and seat jammed up, always felt stretched.
  2. I ordered a size smaller from someone, but I like the way the saber looks so much more.

If it makes me ride more, is it worth being less aero?

It is all about the engine :0)
.

ive seen your race photos and:

-you werent stretched out
-you needed shorter cranks

lately youve been making some poor bike decisions that cost you a bunch of money and dont fast (in this case much slower).

if you want to give up >30s for a 40km be my guest. motivation comes within and isnt found in the next new best thing.http://forum.slowtwitch.com/images/clear_shim.gif

Really depends on how long new next thing motivates you :0)
.

But Eli I do agree with Nick. The new bike should be motivation enough to ride as it is. I mean damn dude it is a P3. And you get the satisfaction of passing peeps on a older bike ;0)

Is >30s per 40K what the Saber gives up over the P3SL? If so, that sucks, because I love my Saber.

this looks perfect:

Didn’t feel comfy.

Well I ordered one size down, guess I’ll be able to get lower, if nothing else…

Average of 8 posts a day?
Dude!
Wouldn’t you be better off training rather than surfing ST?
I guess that’s what students do during the summer.

If that previous picture was you, then your position looked pretty good. If you weren’t comfortable like that, I don’t see how going one size smaller will be more comfortable.

Slightly different geometry?

I wasn’t comfortable in that position on the saddle and only held it for short periods. If you check my position in the other critique my fit thread, you’ll see I was a bit more stretched out when sitting comfortably.

Perhaps if my new ride isn’t as long I can sit a bit more comfortably. I’ll let you know in a few days…

Really…>30 secs given up over a P3?? All these Cervelo deals right now has me thinking of selling my 2009 Saber.
Any help or reference to the aero comparisons would be helpful.

IMHO, it’s as un-aero as any other aero frame unless you’re racing in a perfect aero position. Listening all stories about 30 or whatever sec savings of super-duper carbon aero frames and watching happy p4 or speed concept (you name it) owners racing upright with a bunch of spacers make me laugh. Saber is a great all around frame. The latest models with rear wheel cutoff (like one on Blades) and internal shifter cables routing could be a bit faster than 2006 model, but 2006 are still good enough. I like though integrated head tubes on 2006 sabers more than traditional straight head tubes on newer models. Just my few cents…

I’m glad I get to be the one to say it but smart equipment choices and good positioning(and training) are not mutually exclusive.

Anyway, I wouldn’t be surprised if it were a bit more than 30s/40k. When I went from a carbon Felt B2 to a SC 9(not by choice) my guess would have been about 1-1.5 s/kilometer faster but position isn’t the exact same so tough to tell.

the upright guy is saving the same 30 seconds as the super aero guy.

Do my eyes deceive me or does that rear wheel have one half of a wheel cover on it?

little hijack… since I have a P3 Alu myself w/700c wheels I’m always curious which modern carbon bikes it beats- do you base this on it being about the same as a P2?

That’s about all I can come with myself but haven’t seen how the the P2 compares to say, the Slice, etc. I know there is a chart floating around the forum that compares frames from a few years ago- anything newer?

the p2c ~ p3alum

if youre basing it just on the frame, the slice (old) is probably pretty similar.

just by itself, it beats most bikes in terms of aerodynamics on the road. however, ive been noticing people who have aluminum cervelos tend to have THE cleanest set ups with best tire/wheel choices, minimal nutrition, and good positions.
