How to sit on your bike, by Eric Wohlberg. Comfort? I don’t need no stinkin’ comfort.
Look at the size of the gear he’s pushing! Was this shot taken downhill?
Eric Wholberg is a monster- and short too!
Other cool things to look at on his bike-
He uses the old style clamp on his seat post, the silver one-
also, his Vision tech one piece bars have a Look ergo stem built into them- that is cool!
does he have sti’s and bar end’s?

he has an sti lever for the rear on his bike- but also bar end shifters- you can kinda see it in this pic
.
and an Accel disc. I didn’t think anyone was using them anymore.

Looks like he’s only using it for the brake though. there’s no cable coming out of the side of the shifter.
No way that seat is 5 cm behind the BB. Is -5cm still the rule???
oh i guess the seat is - but the butt seems to be at least 1m in front of it

Speculation is that he’s got 650 wheels on that bike.
He’s not allowed to race 650’s. Not legal for UCI races. His set up is insane! I had the pleasure of holding him upright at Nats three or four years ago(he won) during his bike check. That Look Ergo stem is set as negative as can be, his aero bars are about 2 inches off the front wheel. His saddle is indeed the requisite -5cm from BB, and when he sits on the bike for the check, he has his butt firmly on the rear of the saddle, but as soon as he rolls down the start ramp, he’s on the nose till the finish line.
And yes, he is short, much more so than i expected, and his quads are stupidly freaking huge!
At Worlds in Hamilton, he was in the aero position going up the first steep climb, pushing what looked like a 54!

The UCI begs to differ: 1.3.018 Wheels of the bicycle may vary in diameter between 70 cm maximum and 55 cm minimum, including the tyre. For the cyclo -cross bicycle the width of the tyre shall not exceed 35 mm and it may not incorporate any form of spike or stud.
I stand corrected. I was certain that 650s had been outlawed. my bad, i do know that the last time i saw him on a bike they were 700s. perhaps Gerard could shed some light.
when I talked to him at the SF veloswap a couple of years ago he was trying to sell me 650 race wheels for my (ex) GF’s bike. no idea what he’s riding now.
The P3 he had for sale was setup with the look ergostem in some freakishly low position - elbow pads below the top tube type of thing. I made some stupid comment about an aggressive position - he responded by saying he went under 49 min for a 40k TT on the bike earlier that year. I think my response was something like, ‘uhhh… you must be pretty good’. I had no idea who he was at the time…

Holy crap. That position would scare the hell out of me. It’s got to feel like he’s about the pitch right over the front wheel.
“His saddle is indeed the requisite -5cm from BB, and when he sits on the bike for the check, he has his butt firmly on the rear of the saddle, …”
If he’s sitting on the saddle during the bike check then they’re applying the anthropomorphic exception to the -5 cm rule and are measuring for knee over pedal position. That makes sense since it’s easier to get this waiver if you’re short, and from the picture it doesn’t look like the saddle is 5 cm behind the bottom bracket.
The one advantage of that position is that it would be impossible for barf to actually make it out of his mouth.

LOL! Too funny by a third!
Here’s another knucklehead without a tri-spoke front. What can he be thinking?
If you are way out there in your gearing and loose by over 3 minutes to time trial powerhouse Floyd Landis, maybe an adjustment may be in order. 3 strokes/1000ft may actually be easier on your muscles. It doesn’t matter if he can smoke me.
