I just bought a set of Ultegra 2x10 road shifters and I’m thinking these are 3x.
How or where on the shifters can I confirm if these are 2x or 3x?? I don’s see a model number listed anywhere - 6700 or 6703 (thought 6703 was the # for 3x10??)??
I get 2 clicks (which make me believe these are 3x), but is one of the click, just a trip click? I’d like to confirm if at all possible with a marking before I contact the guy I bought them from.
If it’s newer the Ultegra number will be 6703…is your lever one with all hidden housing or is there a port in the inner/upper portion of the lever for housing to fit into in an area that would be exposed? If you received 7900 models then you have Dura Ace and if you paid Ultegra pricing then good on you!
I have not ridden Shimano in over 10 years on a road bike, but if memory serves there is a trim b/t each ‘click’. So, I’d fully release the lever to what would equate to the inner most ring and start actuating. Make sense? Won’t be nearly as pronounced as it would be when it’s tensioned under cable pull, but if you pay attention you should hear and feel the dif.

Thanks
A 2x shifter will have 2 have two clicks from one gear to the next. The first click is simply a ‘trim’ adjustment to prevent chain rub in the current gear. The second click will shift you up or down.
I’ve had 3x shifters (105 series, 5600) and they could be set up to work with either a 2x or 3x crankset. To do so was really easy, all you have to do is properly set the limits on the front derailleur to prevent over-shifting.
yup, thanks…I wasn’t aware of the “trim” click…so I wanted to make sure that the guy just didn’t mistakenly send me 3x shifters. I know they can “work” by adjusting the front D limits, but if I bought 2x and was sent 3x I would just send them back for an exchange. I was finally able to find where they stamped the model # and verify these are indeed 2x so I’m good to go.
