For starters, I live in AZ and it gets hot during my long bike rides.
It seems my sunglasses are always covered in sweat to the point that I can’t see. Either I have to slow down and wipe the lens with my thumb every 5 minutes or pull them down my nose away from eyes.
I thought about buying some Rudy glasses. I was under the impression that the nose piece - kinda keeps the glasses away from the face - preventing forehead sweat for smearing the lenses.
Anybody have any suggestions that a different pair of shades could help me with this?
I live in Florida and used to have this problem all the time. Now I use a “beanie” from Sweatvac or Headsweats and it does a great job of keeping most sweat off my glasses. I was afraid it would cause my head to overheat but it’s been no problem, even in 95 degree(F) heat and high humidity.
Oakley’s hydrophobic solution helps a bit. The sweat beads up a rolls to the bottom of the lens, and a squirt of water every once in a while, and they look pretty much as good as new. I have the old solution, so I need to reapply once a week or so.
Hotter’n Hell and I sweat like a pig down here too. I’ve used the Headsweats beanie for the last year or so…does ok for awhile but eventually gets saturated and I’m right back to square one. Just switched to a Halo headband last week and like it so far. Was pulling my wife along the other day and she complained that she was getting soaked fr all the sweat coming off the back of my head. All I know is, not much of it was running down my face, for a change. I may try the Halo beanie though and save whoever’s on my wheel the bath.
I use a Halo band too. Works great, it’s fairly thin material…fits under your bike helmet easily and it also fits under a running hat easily as well so you can leave it on for the run.
Really, I have tried RainX on the inside of my Oakleys. It worked for one, maybe two, workouts. What I have taken to doing is hosing the glasses off with water from my water bottle once or twice during a ride. Then on the run the wtaer from the aid stations work.
I have this same problem as well. I wear a headband and keep one or two extra headbands in my jersey pocket and cycle through them.
But I believe my problem is not with my headband(s). I have a buddy who’s pretty much bald (like me) and he doesn’t wear a headband, yet doesn’t get his glasses wet. We compared helmets and his helmet has a piece of foam that runs across the forehead acting as a sweat barrier. My helmet has strips of foam running from front to back actually funneling the sweat towards my forehead. In addition to wringing out my headbands, I also try to dry out those helmet strips. I think a new helmet is in order soon (or at least different foam strips, but it’s a great excuse for a new helmet).
I just take mine off and stick 'em in my helmet when I start dripping. I’ve tried everything, and no matter what, I get sweat dripping (okay, it seems more like pouring at times) on my glasses. Have both oakleys and rudy project maskerynas.
I use the Halo beanies. They work great, not too hot ( I live in NM) and I never get sweat in my eyes anymore. The white one is a bit thinner than the black one but both seem to work fine for me.
OK- then I can rule out my laymen’s philosophy about Rudy glasses sitting away from your face due to the nose piece…
I think we’re on to something here. Making an interchangable nose piece which would keep the glasses off the face preventing sweat from touching the lenses…Too many different style of glasses. They need a pair of glasses like that!
Rain-X on the glasses and use body glide across your forehead and down the cheek side. I help the sweat flow away from your eyes.
That’s funny you say that about body glide. I had a guy on my soccer team in college who would put Vaseline in his eyebrows before games…we all laughed at him until we all did it as a joke to make fun of him…the Vaseline worked great!
