How to prevent 'junk' from chaffing during long run

Not to get too descriptive, but I get some bad chaffing near the top surface and tip. I usually don’t realize it during the run, only until the next day but no matter what shorts I wear, it gets chaffed. I’ve worn old school track shorts I wore in the 80s, newer running shorts made by name brand (nike and champion) and also non-name brand (khols and costco branded).

Do you guys always wear compression shorts/tri shorts to keep it from dangling/rubbing against your shorts?

Only happens to me if it’s raining, which it was on my last long-ish run on Sunday (13 miles). Some chafing, but not too bad.

But when I remember, a little strategically-placed preventive BodyGlide prevents that for me.

Sounds like you need this though - http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Mens-Stocking-Body-Tights-Sleeve-Sheath-Pantyhose-shapers-with-Penis-Sheath-Opening-Nude-free-shipping/709757266.html?af=ppc&isdl=y&src=Google&albch=Google&albcp=Search_Search-ALL-PLA&albkw=None_US-Shopping-Search-Product-AliExpress_none_none&albag=home_none_Search-ALL-PLA_1013999999870&albmt=broad&albst=search-text&albom=OTHERS_None_20130807_Aliexpress&creative=31447451305&ptsid=1013999999870&gclid=CLeEvfiLpbwCFeE1QgodvloA9w

Tri shorts always work best for me including when it’s raining. Body glide feels like it burns if I get it down there.

Bagbalm…seriously. Google it.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions (except Karma’s link…wtf…Do not open that during work). I used bodyglide for my feet sometimes but I guess I didn’t think of using it for my junk. Just seems weird but I’ll give it a try.

I’ll also look up the bagbalm. If worse comes to worse, maybe i’ll pick up some more compression shorts.

Tri-Slide. Use it on the toes too. Just try not to spray it on in the kitchen or around tile you walk on regularly.

You mean finely cut hay and straw is falling off your junk while you are running? I’d go see a Dr.

I’ve run in a few different of the “name brand shorts” and experienced similar issues. Especially high mileage (15-25 miles) on hot days. I picked up a couple of RaceReady shorts and couldn’t be happier. The material is different then any of the others, and you can pick up the “old” colors off their site for $20 so it’s pretty low risk.

I have moved to using CW-X running shorts which are comprepssion shorts with a web to suppert ITB hams and quads. My legs feel much more comfortable and no chaffing. I will also use, if its hot or raining, either Dznuts or Skin Sake, whichever I have on hand, (Its what I use for chamios cream). But for me the biggest move was to ditch regular running shorts for everything except shorter runs.

Wear tri shorts for long runs . . . holds me together!

I have also found 2Toms products to be exceptional http://www.2toms.com/

I always wear compression shorts/underwear for this reason. If I know its going to be a long hot run, I’ll rub bodyglide or vaseline down there just in case.

X4 but I think basic petroleum jelly might work just as well at less cost.
