Is it just me or does a guy red-lining to pass a woman in the shoot look like an idiot?

Would it be better if he stopped picked up his kid and pushed a stroller across?
Is it not a race to the end?
Dave
True - there are so many ways to look like a tool shed.

What if he just PR’d by .05 seconds? Or if he just got a podium spot in his age group? Do you see my point?
And at a pragmatic, competitive level I understand this - but watching it happen makes me look down at my shoes.
Unless someone else was about to pass me, I probably wouldn’t do it.

Well stated.
Of course passing a woman isn’t going to effect his placing in his age group - but yes a PR might be on the line.
However, the event that inspired the post was just watching some dude work his stones off to catch Cave, who was suffering like a bitch out there - he passed her, gave a look (you know the look - “I just passed your ass!!”) and then kept looking back to see if she was responding to his wicked lay-down.
I was embarrassed for the guy.
But believe me, when I did compete - I wouldn’t have slowed down for nothing if I was on my way to a PB!

While I agree with the look you describe as being jack arse like, I don’t feel MOP women are less capable then MOP men so I would race to the finish line.
jaretj
where, was there a pic? come on, show it! i need a laugh…lol.
MOP? Middle of the Pack?
If so, it was an age group man passing a pro woman - again right in the shute.
I’m not saying it was a crime punishable by a lashing - it just looked bad.
Clint
Sorry - it was on the live feed for the 70.3 today.

I am always racing for myself. I ALWAYS give 110% to the finish, whether I am by myself, or someone is next to me!!! I am always practicing for the day when I am fighting neck and neck with a person in my AG, and I am digging deep in pain. So, if you dont practice it, you wont have it when you need it. (I do the exact same thing at the end of all my LSD runs) If someone else wants to try and make a negative out of it, go for it. I do all my races the same.
Dave
I didn’t know to which racers you were refferring to, but I see your point.

I’d be willing to bet the farm that if you were in this situation you could have blown by that woman with about 1,000 time more dignity. I guess that’s what it was really about. It just seemed to lack dignity.
To lots of age group males, beating a pro woman would be a huge achievement.
Perhaps the point is that there is an imbalance of incentives – for him to pass her might be a big deal; for her to hold off him is meaningless (she is competing against other pro women). So, it looks like he’s trying to beat her while she may not care. C’est la vie.
Yes, Ike I believe you’ve hit the nail on the head and should there be joy in racing someone who is not racing you? Not saying it’s wrong - it just didn’t look good.
Again, you missed the point. I am not looking at racers as male or female. I am racing for a PB for ME at my age. Again, if you ever watch me finish a race, you would probably say I was nuts when I finish at 110% and NO ONE IS AROUND ME! I do it the same way ALL the time.
(Now, some of my 110% at the end of races is walking, but its still 110% of what I had left. )
Dave
Who knows the kind of humiliation that could have preceded that action. Maybe the chick passed him on the run when he was suffering and gave him a look or a comment. Maybe she said she didn’t like his outfit or that a little Bodyglide would help with that rash that was developing from his thighs rubbing together.
