How to inflate short valve stem with pump?

This tire is flat and the stem is not long enough for the hand pump to latch onto. It is either too short or pushes into the rim even when I try to hold it from the other (tire) side. What are the options for this type of setup?

This is my first posted picture. Please tell me if it came out too large.

Thanks,
Ted

valve extender
or crack pipe
.

I have one wheel with a tire/tube like that. Some pumps are better than others at grabbing. You might be able to find one that can grab on to that.

But in general, you need either a tube with a longer stem or valve extenders.

Picture is very good.

Valve extenders or a tube with longer stem. I use the Zipp extenders with my latex tubes that have 51mm stems.

Buy tubes with a longer valve stem
Use valve extenders or a crack pipe
Get a pump with a threaded chuck, that would probably still work
.

Use one of those brass Presta to Schrader adapters. Screw on to the stem and can use your pump head … assuming it works with Schrader values … to get a good grip on the adapter.

The screw on heads made by Giyo and used by Lezyne, serfas and others will do well with this situation, but for you own sanity, get either longer stemmed tubes or valve extensions. The problem will come when you are out on the road, using somebody else’s pump, in the race parking lot, etc. I’m a big fan of bulletproofing this type of thing, so if I were you I’d put a short extender on there as that will save you having to change it out, and be sure to put matching extenders on your spares.
