I’m sure this has been answered before on S/T, but how does one get into a IM race that has been filled w/ regular entries and even the community spots? A fellow friend wants to go do IMF w/ me, and I’m interested in helping him because it means he can foot half the hotel room. Any help?
Ironman Florida must have just filled with the communtiy funds slots. I entered this way last month and at the time there were still plenty of spots available.
At this point with the Community fund slots taken the only way that I know to go is to win the auction here on slowtwitch that Tom Ziebart is doing. Check the archives for it.
Become friends with one of the sponsors of the race or with a company that is “friends” with IMNA and ask for one of their spots.

Go do the Muskoka Long-Course Tri in Huntsville, Ontario in June and qualify. There are probably other qualifying races.
My friend couldn’t qualify w/ a rocket strapped to his butt–he will have to go some alternative route.
Depending on the qualifying race you go to, there may be more slots for IMNA events than there are people who want them. You don’t necessarily have to be fast to get one.
Mike C has the spot at this point - His last bid was $1,100.00. The money goes to supporting youth programs at the National Training Center. The auction for the Florida Ironman spot will close on May 31st. (sorry, Mike C) Z
