Just got my Ritchey Pro Adjustable Stem in the mail today. How do you adjust that thing? Came with no instructions. I can change the angle of one side but the other side of the is just stuck…
thanks!

just noticed that the inside part of the stem where that one adjustable piece attaches has teeth-like grooves but the adjustable piece doesn’t. Is that normal? I wonder because it cannot be so f-ing difficult to use that stem.
thanks again.
You have to completely remove the bolt in the middle of the stem (pivot point) and pry the two pieces completely apart. Then you put them back together at whatever angle you want. Once you do this it will become clear. You have to take it apart to adjust it. A little bit of a pain but you shouldn’t be doing this often and it is a rock solid design.

I already took the screw completely out. One side comes off, the other doesn’t.
When you take it apart, you see little teeth on the stem part. Should there also be little teeth on that adjustable part that goes there?
Do both adjustable parts that come off look the same (no teeth)? I wonder if somebody returned my new stem and put it back together wrong because I cannot get that other part off and I cannot imagine that it should stick together like that.

Nope. That’s precisely the wrong way to do it. You do not need to take the whole thing apart.
You unscrew the bolt out as far as it will go without the piece on that side coming off. Then you briskly bump the bolt and the piece on that side with the heel of your hand. This forces the side with the grooves on it out far enough so you can adjust it.

thanks everyody. finally it came out. I had it completely unscrewed but for some reason the piece with the grooves was just stuck and didn’t move. It came out now so I can move on.
Thanks for your input though.
I don’t know about precisely the wrong way to do it, as removing the screw entirely allows one to adjust the stem as one wants to.
Uhhh…percisely the wrong way to do it? I actually have the stem and have adjusted it this way. It is easier to just take the bolt all of the way out and take the peices apart than to “briskly bump” the bolt just enough that you can adjust it. Just pull the thing apart and put it back together. It takes 2 seconds!
