I’ve been a runner for 2 or 3 years now, and did my first triathlon (a sprint with a pool swim) last month. I had a great time and want to get more into it. I live in St. George, so I’m targeting working up to the local 70.3 by next year. I’m trying to decide between a M and a L trisuit. How are they supposed to fit? How much do they stretch out in use? The M fits great on the bottom, feels like compression shorts. It also feels like compression around my torso though, and is much more comfortable when not zipped up. The L feels like its not even there on the top, seems to move with me. My concern, though, is this. I bought a pair of tri shorts for the sprint I did. They fit great when dry. When I get in the water, they get baggy. I am concerned that the M will be uncomfortable when I’m breathing hard for a long time, i.e. on the bike and run, but also concerned that the L will get baggy when wet and cause drag, negating the whole point of the trisuit. Any suggestions which would be best for me? Any other fit issues I should be looking at that haven’t occurred to me? Thanks in advance.
You should go on the DeSoto website and ask them this question. They’re very helpful and they helped me a lot in the past with sizing and answering my questions.
Rule #1 - No camel toe, regardless of gender
.
A tri suit should resemble a sausage casing, regardless of your body shape.
Depends on the tri suit company (one piece back-zip are great for sprint distances…strongly suggest Zerod or Kiwami).
Ideally you want them as tight as comfortable as that will make them more aero and hydrodynamic. Also remember that they will be more comfortable when wet.
For me it’s quite a battle squeezing into the suit, but when its on it feels great. (ZeroD O-Suit, Size M, I’m 183cm and 66kgs)
be sure to look into Kiwami. their unique hydrophobic materials don’t absorb water, so no baggy shorts feeling, and a light and fast suit. contact@kiwamitri.com will give you any info you need. get the best…
Another item to consider is whether you will be wearing a wetsuit or swim skin. If you go with a baggy tri suit, it will most definitely cause drag during the swim, if not covered by the wetsuit or swim skin. I opted for a smaller size even if it wasn’t entirely flattering for my “keg” mid section. The last thing I wanted was fabric flapping in the wind during the bike.
I will mostly be doing wetsuit swims. The large wasn’t baggy when dry, it just didn’t feel like it was squeezing my torso. The medium does feel like it squeezes my torso. If they grow a half size when wet, the M would probably feel fine. If they do grow a half size during the swim, do they normally shrink back down by the end of the run? The torso compression would effect how deeply I can breath.
