Lately, I’ve been weighing myself right before bed and again in the morning.
I usually lose 4.5 pounds overnight. 161 before bed and 156.5 in the morning.
Am I really dehydrating by 1/2 of a gallon overnight?
Alex

woman?
I wiegh usually 160-161 at night after dinner and 159 in the am. I’m not sure why you have such a large swing but I would think water retention would be the biggest factor.
Actually, know that I think about it, during my heavy volume IM training, I would see a more aggressive weight loss overnight, too.

Depends how much water i drink that night. I’ve seen up to 7 pds overnight. Granted, I went #1 three times between the weighings.
3~4#s in normal for me.
Nope – I’m a guy.
I’ve been weighing myself twice a day for about a year now, and I seem to lose about 3 lbs over night.
I’ve been somewhat fascinated by the gain / loss I experience over the course of a week. I maintain a very strict (low calorie / no cheating) diet from Sunday night through Friday afternoon. Come Friday night I start eating whatever I want until Sunday mid-afternoon. I don’t drink much alcohol, but I do eat a lot of junk - Doritos, Peanut M&Ms, etc. It’s probably not a plan you’ll see in a book anytime soon, but it works for me and I’ve lost a lot of weight since starting it (I obviously exercise a lot too). Almost without exception, I gain 10 lbs throughout the weekend. By Tuesday morning (Tuesday evening at the latest) I’m always back to where I was going into the weekend, and typically drop another .5 lb by Friday.
I’m sure there’s a logical scientific explanation relating to sodium intake, water weight, etc., but I’m not motivated to figure out exactly why this happens. The only time I think about it now is when someone asks how much I weigh - I’m not sure what I should consider my ‘real’ weight to actually be…
Pretty consistently around 2 to 2 1/2 lbs.
I’m in the 2-3lb range.
I typically lose about 3 pounds overnight. (I say “about” because I have an old-fashioned spring scale and my eyesight isn’t good enough to see whether the needle is on the second or third line above 155 in the morning.)
3-4 LBS depending on the days training. I usually run late in the afternoon and when this happens the weight loss is usually upto 5 lbs
i just notice this morning that I lighter for a 2 pounds - never checked it before. I was going to write it off to eclipse… will look into it closer, Thanks
about 4 pounds.
I have had a similar “plan” for the last several years…although not quite as pronounced. My weight swing is more around 5-7 pounds, not 10, and I don’t go too overboard with the snacking but I do allow myself to eat at night as I stay up later on Fri and Sat night. It always amazed me that by Tue AM I am back to Fri AM’s weight…and then by the next Fri I have lost another .5 - 1 pound. This has taken me from 245 when I started tri’s to 195 now. I’d still like to drip another 10-15 but seem stuck. I am hoping increased speed training in the spring will jump start the weight loss again. I have always wondered how sticking to the strict diet 7 days/week would work, so I’ve tried it several times for about 3-4 weeks (it is hard to resist temptations for too long) and I just seem to hold steady rather than lose anything.
1.5 lbs…if I’ve add any kind of a workout during the day. Usually if I don’t train that day, I’m affraid to look the next morning
2-3 lbs. i’ve heard that your weight in the AM is your actual/correct weight. anyone hear otherwise?
Typically 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 pounds. However, if there is a lot of sodium in the food that I eat for dinner, then I don’t lose as much weight.
about 2-3 lbs…
that is interesting that when you restricted all the time you did not lose, only when having the eat all you want days…if it works for you, great. I know nothing about this, but have read that from time to time it is good to eat more calories than usual in a day to ‘trick’ your metabolism…dont jump over me for saying this as I know how dumb it sounds, but maybe not?
I think the reason for the gain is obviously the salt and processed foods. These retain the water and make the numbers go up. I never weigh myself at night it is too depressing!
Mark, our stories are similar – I was 230 a year ago when I started this whole thing. I had put on 30 lbs since my last tri in '99 & would go up and down in weight as I fell in and out of running over 7 years. I just don’t have the will power to eat well on weekends at home w/ 3 young kids and a wife who can eat chocolate all day and never be heavy. My diet is similar to the Body for Life plan, just with two cheat days instead of one ;). Last week I dipped under 194 for the first time since college. I really don’t have much more to lose, but I think 185 is a possibility. I finally realized that I only stay motivated when I have a specific event to prepare for. Last year was Disney marathon, this year it’s IMFL. From here on out I intend to sign up for races a year in advance - I’m such a cheap ass that once they have my entry fee I’ll damn sure show up on race day ready to go…

yeah, I don’t really know either but that seems to be what is happening. It seems that when I don’t eat as much my body may be slowing down my metabolism…I don’t know…I struggle with finding a balance.
