How much time should you take off of your A race if it was a 70.3?? My season is done so I have lots of time.
I normally will drink beer and do nothing until March of the next year and start all over again…
I’m using the “off season” to focus on my run game. Will probably train up to a marathon or a strong half late Jan or Feb.
well you should start by asking your self what you want to accomplish next season and seasons to come…larger goals may mean you need to start with base work ASAP…just finishing a race could mean you wait til MArch…
Last year I took off December 25th AND 26th. This year I will probably move that up and do Dec 24th and 25th…
It really depends on what, if anything, is next on your schedule. My ‘A’ race is always the last of the season and is IM distance. I’ll do 1 very EZ swim/week for 2 weeks after that. Also, I’ll sleep a lot and let my diet slip a bit. After the 2 weeks are up, I begin unstructured training for about 3 months at about 1/2 the volume that my regular training called for. After that I usually start some sort of “focus” program and build up to my typical IM training schedule.
I wonder about this myself.
It is Oct 1, and at least 6 months before any real racing begins for me, more like 7-8 months, really.
I am pretty sure I want to go back to road racing for 2010, and not sure what, if anything I should be doing now.
In 2008 and 2009 I did not ride enough and my power suffered.
I’d like to build a HUGE base of endurance miles this winter, but not sure it is even appropriate to start yet. If I start now, I’m probably going to be sick of Tour DVD’s before it even gets nasty out. Perhaps I should ride outside now while the weather is still nice, take a break when the weather gets real bad, and switch to trainer rides in Jan-Feb? I feel that I can get in 5 hours a week of endurance throughout the winter (1 hour a day on the trainer during the work week).
I’ve taken 4 weeks off and have done whatever I wanted to do.
I am now starting to run and swim consistantly again. I’m biking when it’s fun.
Around January I’ll start to get serious about bike training again for Triple T in May.

For me it’s a good time to work on my weakenesses. Last year I had a leg injury so I really focused on swimming, got lessons, etc… Guess what? I’m now a much faster swimmer than I was last year (shaved 3-4 minutes off my 70.3 time). This year I feel like I need to get faster at running, so I’m going to run with a group that focuses soley on running, run some races in December, January and I’ll probably swim some here and there. the bike will be put up for the most part until January/February.
I took 15 years off. Now I need to catch back up . No time for breaks or time off now. MUST TRAIN!!!
