I am thinking of going with the Ultra DI2 upgrade. I have a previous generation (2012) Cervelo P2, with the Aura Pro carbon fiber base bar and 10 speed mechanical ultegra. While I do have some mechanical skills this is something I would have to let a bike shop handle. What should I expect to pay for this upgrade?
I am also considering going with the tririg omega or hydraulic brakes at the same time, mainly for the aero benefits. Is this something I should do at the same time or does it matter?
I don’t think any of my wheels are eleven speed compatible but I am thinking about buying a power tap wheel at the same time.
Hydraulic brake won’t have the shifter on the horns by factory. You gotta hack that. Check for he thread here. You can check online for prices to get a rough calculation.
seriously, if doing that, how hard do you think it is to hook up some wires?? heck the youtube videos from arts cycling tells you exactly how to set up the trim on the front and rear der. you just have to decide where you want to secure the junction boxes, but as another said, much better on a frame built for di2, ie new p2 or 3 where everything can be hidden. arts also had decent prices for an upgrade kit earlier this month(you pick what you want)

I bought a Di2 bike so I did not do the initial install but I did download the manual to get the adjustment directions and the install and initial setup looks pretty easy. The wires are basically plug and play and the instructions are very clear on how to set up the derailleurs. The great thing about Di2 is the precise repeatability of the movements so the derailleur set up is series of “make this thing X millimeters from that thing” and then it all just works.
The only issue which might lead one to want to go the professional install route is that if it does not work (e.g. you have bad part or somehow plugged something in the wrong port), it might be kind of hard to track down the issue. A properly equipped LBS will have the Shimano software to test the system. This tool also allows them to do custom button function set up too.
I agree with other posters. I have an older P3(2009) and would like to upgrade to Di2 also, but it would be better to have a frame built for Di2. Will focus on training hard to reward myself with a new bike when I get my FTP over 300.
Honestly, if you want all of that I would just buy a new P3
New p3 is $5800. I have seen the road bike upgrade kit for around $1000. It looks like the Tri version is about $1100 from arts cyclery, plus a couple hundred labor? $1300-$1400 dollars?
The hydraulic brakes are way more than I thought but the triirig omega is currently $320 for a pair.
Yes I know it’s expensive. However, your adding di2 to a frame that was never designed to use it. It won’t look pretty and it’s gonna be a mess. You can do it if you want. However, why buy 10 speed when you can just upgrade everything to 11 speed and be current with the latest technology for the next couple of years? I wouldn’t waste my money on 10 speed di2
Very rough numbers but Di2 upgrade (without the bullhorn brake shifters) is probably around $1000? Closer to $1400 if you go with the bullhorn brake shifters as well. You really want a frame built for Di2 though. I did this upgrade on my New P3 and it is very easy to do.
I’m currently doing an Ultegra 11speed Di2 on a bike that was not designed for Di2. I feel confident that after looking at everything that it will be a straight forward install, and that I could probably handle the task. I currently own two bikes with Di2 so I am familiar with the components. But after all that is said, I’m having my LBS order all the parts and is going to do the install. After checking prices on the internet and getting a great deal at my LBS I will be paying that LBS around $400.00 more for the parts and labor. For me this is a no brainer, the LBS will take care of me if I ever have an issue. It’s worth every penny not to have to worry about the install and warranty issues if anything happens. Good luck, do the 11speed, and you will love the D12.
