How much is your saddle to elbow drop?

I often see guys in tri races with a super high bar position. Of course the top guys are usually very low, although the roadies (Cancellara etc.) seem to go a bit lower. So I thought I’d run a tiny survey here…

That’s kind of a flawed question. Someone like Levi Leipheimer runs maybe 1-2cm of drop, but is low and very aero. If I were to run 2cm of drop I’d need a lot of spacers and a high rise stem. I’m closer to 15cm, but I’m not sure what that really tells anyone else. Certainly nothing meaningful.

My saddle to arm rest drop is -104mm. My saddle to base bar is -138mm.

Agreed, lots of variables here:
Spine lengthFlexibilityHumerus lengthHumerus/torso angle
Generally taller people will have a larger drop. I’m 5’8" with a 6cm drop with a fit from a locally regarded fitter.

My drop is over 14cm.

10 cm but I’m a little shorter than levi leipheimer

169 cm tall, and my drop is 5.5 cm (top of saddle to top of aerobar pad) so around 3.3% of my height . I have a short torso and very long arms and legs making the fitting problem a bit tricky too.

Mine is 14cm. But I’m a roadie and only need to stay in this position for an hour or so. I’m looking at going to 14.3. If I were doing a half, I’m probably decrease the drop to 13.7. But I swim like a rock and can’t run around the block.

19cm.

With a height of 185cm, mine is 22cm. With 170mm crank and saddle tip right at 5cm behind BB. But this is roadie TT position, not tri position.

Think of this as fact collection rather than a statement of some rule. I realize everyone is a bit different but some facts don’t hurt. Here is a pic of Levi’s TT position. The drop looks to be 70-90mm (considering foam pads are compressed when he is on the bike). Thanks for everyone’s info. http://5oclockam.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/levi-leipheimer-2.jpg

8cm.

A really old setup, but my fit coords haven’t changed (I gave the shop this pic when they set up my Shiv):

My drop is 11 cm. I have thought about going lower. According to the FIST guidance, 11 is my minimal drop, 12.5 would be typical and 14 is aggressive.

183cm tall – 12cm drop for HIM, 15cm for Oly and Shorter races
.

92mm from the top of the saddle to the bars on my road bike and ~100mm seat to pads on my tri bike since I took out my headset bearing cover.

I did have to come up from a -40° stem to -30° when I did that, looks like I’m at my limit.

I’m not that tall

I do inches  I’m 6’2’’ and drop is 7 1/2’’ to the armrests…

the survey does not find out what you want to find out.

some people have very low positions with very little drop due to the way their bodies are shaped.

taller people will have more drop, all else equal, people with short upper arms will have less drop, and so on.

Actually you brought up a very good point about set back. This thread is useless without including both height and nose set back from BB centreline. So for me, 169 cm heights, 4 cm set back, 5.5 cm drop. The reason for the set back (even as a triathlete) is that I have some fairly bad neck injuries and riding slacker takes more weights off my upper body.
