I have a set of cosmic carbones, thinking about putting a pt in it, how much would I spend to do so?
My shop wouldn’t do it, because my power tap hub needed to be 2x (two cross pattern) and my easton ec90 aeros did not allow that pattern so it was a no go.
My shop quoted me $80 + $1-$3 per spoke (which seems like a wide range).
I did it myself. Previously I’ve re-laced half a wheel after a derailleur adjustment issue, so this was my first build. Wheel is still true after a season of some fairly agressive riding.

My memory is that it was ~$60 - 80, which included removing the PT from the original rim, then lacing it into a Zipp 303 (32 spoke).
I just recently had my Easton EA90’s built with the GS hub (Straight Pull) and it cost me $105 at my LBS including the cost of new spokes.

Make sure when putting a PT in it that you get the one with the right amount of spoke holes to go with the intended rim. It’s not like you can just “skip” a hole here and there ![]()
$20 - $30 plus the cost of spokes, nipples, rim tape, etc.
$1 to $3 spoke cost range is for straight or butted spokes vs bladed like Sapim CX-Ray
Hey this is Rich from Wheelbuilder.com. We offer services to build a wheel around your existing Powertap. If you want to build it into a wheel you already have be sure the rim has the same spoke count as the hub. If it is an alloy rim I would advise getting a new one since they are relatively inexpensive. If it is a carbon rim you can rebuild with it and save a good bit.
You can e-mail me direct if you have any further questions.
Good luck

Hey Rich, you guts do not have any info on your sire for a powertap wheel rebuild. I looked into this awhile ago and from your website, it makes it look like you no longer offer this option.

Yes we still offer it. Just drop me or benny@wheelbuilder.com an e-mail and we can get you setup.
I have a set of cosmic carbones, thinking about putting a pt in it, how much would I spend to do so?i looked into it as I have a PT in a generic cycleops wheel. Only problem is that it’s a 32h PT and there are basically zero decent car I wheels I could put it into.
Thanks for all the responses. I was hoping to find a cheap rear powertap hub, and pay to get it laced. Looks like that might not be the best idea. Maybe, go witha 4iiii crankbased instead?
I had good luck buying a used wheel set with pt installed. Got American Classic 420 s with pt for 450. Been bullet proof. Deals are to be had if you’re patient.
If you have money, 4iiii is not a good option (until they offer dual sided). If you don’t have money, a cheap pt-hub, a rim of your choice (but yeah, make sure to match the number of spokes), a little bit of reading and some patience and build it yourself is a very good option IMO.

You can do a “crows foot” 24 spoke lacing with a 32h hub. It should work fine with a PT as well.
My shop charged me 40$ to build my wheel.
that’s the route i took… bought a defective PT hub on here for super cheap, sent it back to Powertap for a new G3 ($375), then ended up just buying a new wheel and spokes to have it laced to. out of pocket ended up being a little under $700. definitely could’ve spent less just buying a used wheel, but hey it was brand new and exactly what i wanted.

Trying to be frugal. I have a quarq on my tri, but was thinking about adding a pt for my road bike on the cheap
I have a 24 hole PT G3 hub for sale in case you need one.
