How much are we screwed in the USA?

I was buying some tires and noticed not the only the tires are cheap at PROBIKEKIT but seems entire UK online stores are 20-30% cheaper in general compared to US merchants.

For the same tri top

US retail price: $109.95 plus shipping
http://www.trisports.com/2xu-mens-triathlon-clothing.html

UK retail price: $69.40 free shipping to US
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/m/triathlon/10/2XU/

Felt B2 Pro

US pricing: $7495 on sale at $7145 plus shipping
UK pricing: $5782.98 on sale at $4048.08 plus shipping ($90 shipping to US)

ouch
.

Double check that. One one on wiggle looks like last year’s discontinued model.

Next time post links to the actual products not the category. It was hard to find the 2 items you were comparing.

However, differences can be explained by the exchange rate between the euro and the country of manufacture, or the country hosting the wholesaler.

Also, Europe tends to be closer geographically to Asia where the manufacturing is happening.

And finally, I hope you don’t feel insulted but it needs to be asked, did you have the European site set to show USD or euros?

yeah, but when you buy stuff from the uk (in the usa) you have to pay customs and it takes 2 weeks-1 month to get it.

not form probikekit.com it doesn’t. Unless you live in hawaii or Alaska maybe.

x2 - does not cost any extra and usually shows up quickly
.

Second PRoBikeKit.
I always find it amazing that shipping is free and whatever I order arrives in Chicago 3-4 days after I order it.

maybe I just have bad luck. I have been billed for customs (though not from the shop you mention) and once had a package held by the DHS for a week.

(shows 10 in stock)

Just look any item on a UK site, majority is a lot cheaper than US. Funny thing the running shoe prices are cheaper here.

I ordered tri top and bottom from trisports 20% sale. Then saw them on Wiggle, ordered the same from UK came in 5 days a and returned what i bought from trisports. Bikes and over sized items might be subject to customs.

You think you’re screwed (for pricing)? Try living in NZL! Sheesh…

FYI - I ordered before from PBK due to great prices, but was hit on the backend by my credit card with an “international exchange fee” - wasn’t a lot, but it was a good 10-15% of the total order. Something to consider.

I’m calling bullshit. Most Visa and Mastercards will carry a 3% exchange rate. American express cards charge 2.5%. Debit cards (don’t use these) I don’t use but I think I was told 4% from a couple of institutions. While V and MC aren’t always 3% I don’t/won’t believe 10% - 15% at all, unless you can show proof. On the other hand you can use google/call a few large banks and get the numbers I’m talking about.

Hmm, last I checked, most products (TRI or not) are way more expensive in Europe than in the US. It looks like we are subsidising you guys.

Eg. : Garmin 310 is 350$, it is about 600$ in Europe.
Bikes, even european brands, are nearly twice the price in Europe (can someone please explain this to me).

So no, I won’t feel sorry for you.

I was charged roughly $6 on an order of $65.00 for this exchange fee. It appeared at the bottom of my charges.

So from a good 10-15% it went to ~9%

Still weird but a lot better.

Fred.

And still worth considering before you order from PBK.

If you get screwed in the USA, lubricant is not even an option in Canada.

Fred.

Basically retail prices in Europe are higher than in the US.
Wiggle and others subtract the VAT for all shipments outside the EU which makes it already 17.5% cheaper.
Then exchange rates have fluctuated quite a bit recently while retail prices are calculated at least for a year.
And, they might give you a price in US$ but will bill you in GBP. From my experience, the price actually paid in US$ is always a bit higher than the advertised one.

That’s strange. I’ve bought from wiggle.co.uk recently and I use the paypal checkout option. The few times i have done this, the money that comes out of my linked account is exactly what I secured the day I place my order. No additional fees in my bank, either.

I paid by CC and the Wiggle exchange rates are most likely not the same as from my cc company. Not a big difference though
