How many races?!

How many races do you guys usually do in a year?

working out the 09 schedule and it seems kinda bunched up-I have 5 in 8 weeks, including a half ironman. I wish to do more than 5 tri’s next year (as 2 are just sprints, 1 oly, and 1 half), but I can’t find any close by out of june and july…

I like to do a lot of racing during a season when I am not doing Ironman. One of the drawbacks of Ironman is that, for me at least, I have to forego the shorter events since I am using that time to do the longer training.

When I have a normal year, like last year, I’ll race maybe 10-13 times including a couple halfs, but mostly sprints and Olys. I think my wife raced 16 times last year, more if you count everything in addition to tris (she did 16 tris I think).

I like racing a lot. You do have to travel for it though as our season starts late and ends early. Next year I figure I’ll start again at the Super SEAL Triathlon in Coronado, California.

This year, I’ll be doing three races, but they’re all longer races (TTT Ohio, Muncie or L’Alpe D’Huez, MOO) so I need to have more time to train for them.

If I were doing shorter races I’d be able to race much more often than that! As is, I may sneak a few shorter races in during the early parts of the season…

I usually do 10-15 races in a year, but I don’t normally race longer than olympic distance.

Since I’m not doing anything iron distance this year, I’m planning on doing 9-14 races. Could be a busy season.

I’m going to give Mrs. Fatmouse a pass on attending races this year, since I plan on doing a bunch.

3 Triathlons. Races really interfere with the training.

A bunch of 5Ks, some half marathons, and also some 10 mile cycling TTs though, but I consider those training.

YTD:

6 swim meets
11 road races (5k-15k)
3 triathlons (a sprint and two HIMs)

I won’t do that many road races next summer. By the end of this fall I truly felt over-raced and still haven’t really recovered from it - I have no desire to go to swim meets this season, so I’m not. Lesson learned about carefully choosing the races you really want to do.

I did 3 marathons, 2 tris, 6 dus and a handful of 5 & 10 k races this year. Next year I focusing on my ironman, so it won’t be nearly as many.

This year 10 from March—sept.
Biggest year was 18 March —oct.
BUT i will not tell you how I did. That would piss some people off : )

I did 7 tri’s this year if you count Triple T as 1 race. No sprints, all Oly and HIM’s. I also did 5 bike road races, 3 or 4 run races, and a swim/run aquathlon. I seem to do 7 or 8 tri’s every year unless i’m doing IM then it’s usually less.

Every year is different for me. I like to mix things up a little. No IM this year but a few 70.3s and Olys. Maybe something extreme.

For 09 I am thinking 4 70.3s, 2 Olys, 1 duathlon, and 2-3 marathons. (Feb-Nov)

Probably 4 Tri’s, 10 Club Races
4 Run Races,
and maybe something for fun, (i.e. swim leg of tri, mtb etc…,)
I don’t race any further than oly.

Next year I figure I’ll start again at the Super SEAL Triathlon in Coronado, California.

How come no SuperFrog? I started to say that is a long way to travel for an Olympic distance, then I thought about where you were traveling from and it all became clear.

this year i had 16 tris, 2 duathlons,

2 or 3 time trials, and so far 5 running races.

This season, I did 7 tri’s (2 sprints, 2 oly’s, 2 HIM’s, and 1 IM), a 1/2 marathon and a marathon. Next year should be about the same.

I’ve only raced triathlons in my 4 seasons in the sport. I typically do 14-16 races a season, comprised of one IM, at least 3 HIM, and the rest Oly and maybe 1 or 2 sprints.
