How many of you even know what core muscles are?

Name the muscles that are considered “core” muscles. Here’s a hint. If it’s less than 7, you fail. (More if you count the minor muscles, and I’m including groups, such as the erector spinae)

I’m just amused when people talk about how core helps in triathlon and everyone starts saying “more situps ain’t gonna help” like the core starts and ends at the abdomen and lower back.

That’s all I can remember. But there’s bunch more little ones.

I try to evenly work my major groups with large movements, like squats and step ups, and such. I don’t focus on “core”. I figure swimming gets my upper core, and running/biking gets my lower core. Perhaps I’m naive.

I just call it “The Hog.”

This machine, you sit on a stabilizer ball, you put your feet into the power stir-ups, you reach up and you grab onto the super rod, and you twist, and you twist, and you twist. It strengthens your entire core. Your back core, your arm core, the Marine Core actually uses it. I think that’s how they got a core.

Could be a good discussion but the post’s title tells me that the poster is a self-inflated dude of sorts, whose goal appears to be to let us all know he’s much smarter than we are and little else. Probably is looking at an internet article that has just informed him so he wants to inform us that he’s informed and we are not informed.

No, I’ve proved many times over in this forum that I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed. This was basically an offshoot of the current core thread, where everyone is focused on the abs and lower back. How can you debate whether or not core work helps unless you know what muscles are involved and why they don’t directly contribute to being faster but they do help enable being faster.
