I’ve focused a little more on nutrition this year. I’ve tried to clean up my diet a little since I’ve dealt with IBS, gluten sensitive, lactose intolerance, but also just to be a little healthier in general. I’m not perfect but gotten better with my eating habits. wondering how many calories others take in during training for IM. I’ve seen recommendations showing 3500-4000 calories per day. On hard workout days I can usually get close to 3500 but it’s a stretch to get over that. I’m mostly in the 3200+ per day but try to just listen to my body. If I get over 3500 I usually start to feel stuffed. I just keep track of my weight and my energy levels to make sure I’m fueling enough. Wondering what others here do? and what are your calorie dense foods? cashews are a pretty good go to item for me. my system seems happier if I just eat all day long with slightly smaller meals but snacking frequently.
Big days I can eat 5000-6000 calories no problem counting pre/during/post workout.
250-400 calories per hour training
Lots of easily digestible carbs (pancakes/waffles/syrup)
You’re probably trying to eat TOo clean
There’s times to eat healthy,and times to eat for performance.
There’s a difference.
I do eat lots of waffles. So that’s another go to for me. so yeah. Maybe I should stop worrying as much and just eat.
If performance or recovery isn’t suffering and you’re not dropping weight uncontrollably, yea. Chill out and JFT!
JFT = Just fucking train!

Haha good advice. Yeah so far my training is good and my weight has been stable.
When I was training around 20 hours per week, I was eating around 5,000 calories per day and maintained my weight at 138 pounds.
If your weight is good, don’t worry about the calorie count.
The fact that I worked as a cook at night helped ease the pain on my wallet.
i’ve been tracking my calories (on myfitnesspal) for almost two years so when I started IM training a few months ago, I already had my base target of 1600 calories. I continued doing what I always did which was to eat back most of my exercise calories. On average, that’s another 1400 calories during the week and 2300 on the weekends (because of long runs/rides). I weigh myself every day to maintain a feel on how I’m doing. I’m currently at 158 lbs (down from 255 two years ago).

that’s an amazing achievement - congrats!

thanks! i’m perpetually scared of going back which is why I don’t let myself go crazy using training as an excuse to eat everything in sight. i definitely do use it as an excuse to treat myself within reason (ice cream, soda, pizza, beer)
