I’m curious. How long is your average swim workout (and if there’s a difference, what have you found to be your ‘ideal’ workout length)? Does this markedly change depending on what distance you’re racing?
Most workouts are 3000 meters 3x/ week. Every now and again I’ll sneak in a 4th day
4,000 yards, 3 times a week. about an hour. Sometimes 4 times a week.
My average swim workout would be around 30-40 min in total usually 4-7 times per week. Same thing with running. Average run duration was around the same and usually 5-7 times per week. This year, I am unable to run, so my average swim is 60-70 min 7 days per week.
80-90 min per session. 5x/week
Usually 3 times per week for a total of about 2.5 miles. I avg. about 1:30/hundred at most distances.
building up to a race, three times a week, ~2500 yards, usually done in under an hour. my t-pace is roughly 1:10, and i mostly do olympics distance events.
Around 2800-3000m, depending on the practice. Workout length doesn’t need to change for race distance, but the workout type will change a bit.
If I’m focusing on draft legal, my swimming will be closer to 3000-4500x3-4 (lower end would be IM days) and then 5-6kx1-2days. It usually works out to be 24-27k a week on 6 days a week. If I’m focusing on 70.3 I’ll bring it down to maybe 18-22k a week. Regardless of what I’m training about 8 days out I’ll drop down workouts no longer than 2000, but keeping the frequency the same.
I try and go 5 times a week for 30mins-1hr. 30mins is high intensity swims but idk wtf I’m doing in the pool I suck at swimming lol
this strava tells me this yr i am avg 3 swims a week at 6,703 yards a week, last yr about this time was almost 2x this amount but yet with all the stroke work this winter still going faster then last yr! Now i have time to do things a actually enjoy doing like biking and running:-)
3x week @ 10k-12k meters
.
Used to be 2500y 4 times a week.
Lately 1500y twice a week. I did 2000 today and shoulder was real sore.
Breaking a clavicle is a bitch.
Breaking a clavicle is a bitch.
I resemble that remark. Just worked myself up to 1400m x 2 this week, with hopefully a little something on Saturday.
I’ve got a 1.2 mile swim in 3 weeks, and I think I should be ok.
The only upside to being stupid slow to begin with – I really haven’t lost any swim “speed”. I just need to build the swim endurance back up.
560000 mt/year
avg w/o 2800mt (~50min)
(~55min IM swim, age 45y/o)
.
2 x indoor : 2500 to 3000M per session.
Now open water has started, 1 x 3000 to 4000M

I like swimming but not for a long time.
On average about 10000 yards a week. Usually 3000-3200 yards x3 a week but depending on time of season and schedule I will have a few 4000 yard swims in there too. But pretty much always swimming MWF.
2000-3500m, more a time factor really and a lot less focus on it since it’s rapidly diminishing returns and a low value with limited time. I swim usually just 3x a week. I swam 3000-4000 the last 2 years 4-5x a week. I was about 2-3"/100m faster at threshold pace. Amounts to maybe 1’ in a 70.3. IF I had the time, it really fills in a schedule nicely to maximize aerobic volume at a higher intensity, without adding specific leg fatigue. However, LSD on the bike, might have similar overall value in that regard.
judging by these comments, it’s apparent I don’t swim nearly enough. lol
