I have never used it so there will be zero effect on my life.
Random aside that I once had to testify in federal court about how WeChat’s (Chinese messaging app) end to end user encryption wasn’t that at all. BTW, if you’re using WeChat you probably shouldn’t.
Several months ago I started with Instagram, it can be a way to kill time. Never been on TikTok.
I asked my daughter if she would swtich to Instagram and she said no. For whatever reason Tiktok is cool and Instagram isn’t. In my mind they’re the same thing.
We may be the wrong age group if you’re asking here about users.
So what happens to folks’ content that they’ve created? Just gone? (I know it’s still stored on some cloud and data centers out there, but can it be accessed/saved/brought back).
TikTok is more music and short video driven - more spontaneous and creative. IG is more curated. Photos more so than short form video. There are short form videos on IG, but those are in stories and they go away after a short period of time. There are also other videos on IG. IG is more established and the algorithms of what you see is different. You’re more pushed to view what it shows you as opposed to TikTok. Because IG is older and more established, there are a lot more influencers doing promotional things there it seems.
I suppose if you want to say both Tik-Tok and IG are visual, then yes, they’re the same. But then you could also add art paintings or TV into that group, i.e. not the same really.
You’ve been very certain of this across multiple threads. I’m not. You may be right but I read the goodbye message everyone got as a very public attempt to box Trump into having to try to resuscitate TikTok, which of course implies the path to getting it back online isn’t currently clear/agreed. Were Trump to attempt to do so he would piss off the China hawks in Congress (they’d of course go along with it, that’s what we’ve all learned, but they’d be pissed). I think the chances are at least even that he doesn’t try to do the hard contentious thing and just pivots to blaming Biden for it going away permanently.
Do you really think Trump cares who he pisses off at this point? He doesn’t. Every decision he makes in this term is for sale. TikTok will send lots of money his way and he will bring them back.
I think resuscitating TikTok will be legally and practically difficult and I think Trump is lazy. If you tell him there’s another path that ensures zero political repercussions to him and requires zero effort from him (save mean-tweeting at Biden), I think there’s a good chance he takes it. What do you make of the go-dark message? It’s a strange thing to write if TikTok believe they have a deal to be back in 36 hours.
What better way to herald TRUMP! as the hero of TikTok then to officially go dark for one whole day?
It won’t be difficult for Trump, he will tell he handlers to fix it and that’s the extent that he will do. Hell, he hardly even writes many of this social media posts any more.
Not that anyone will stop him, but does he really have the power?
It was a law passed by Congress, signed by the President and upheld by the Supreme Court. Please tell me the executive can’t just decide to change it. That sounds a bit like the autocracy that I’ve been told is never going to happen.
