Ok. I’ll bite. What’s a pedal washer? Someone to wash your pedals? A rubber gromet type thing? What type of pedals do you have?
+1??
Speedplays.
It’s a metal female part that goes between the spindle and the crankarm.
Its a metal washer that goes in between the crank and pedal. Some carbon crank manufacturers include them and say they must be used. Other than if a crank manf recommends they aren’t necessary.

depends on two things:
how lazy you are.
and how dirty your pedals are.
me, i just wash them myself.

It depends on the cranks you’re using. Some carbon FSAs and Srams use an aluminum treaded insert that is inset from the plane of the crank arm. Depending on what kind of pedals you’re using the pedal shaft may contact the carbon arm unless you have installed a pedal washer. If you have basic aluminum cranks they washers aren’t really required though they may decrease the amount of micro-damage done to the contact area of the crank arm each time you instal the pedals.
The upshot is don’t worry too much if you don’t have indented inserts in carbon cranks.

Wash?
Is grease enough?

In some cases pedal washers can be used to tweak your bike fit. When I was fit to my current bike, my left knee was kicking out a bit while pedaling. The fitter added a washer as a spacer, and this small shim had a noticeable impact on my pedal stroke.

If the seating surface of the pedals you’re using doesn’t contact the carbon fiber you’re still OK. If they don’t interfere, get a set when you can and put them on the next time the pedals are off.

OK thanks Hugh.
