How far in advance of tri should I quit selling plasma?

I sell plasma on a weekly basis. How far in advance should I stop selling in order to ensure I’ll be properly prepared for a 1/2 ironman?

Yours or someone elses?

my god i hope you are kidding. it takes months and months to recover from that. if you really are doing that–which i don’t believe you are–you need to stop but once or twice a year!

Depends on how badly you need the money I suppose. Increased blood plasma is a positive adaptation to training. Draining out a pint of your hard earned plasma every week will hold back your training in addition to your racing.

On the other hand, if you need the money, you need the money. When i sold plasma I needed the money and would have done it the day before a race if necessary. But having to sell plasma and being a triathlete don’t seem to match to me.

And to KC why would selling plasma take longer to recover form that giving blood?

this might be a stupid question but, why exactly would removing plasma affect athletic performance? I was under the impression that oxygen was transported mainly by hemoglobin and that plasma is ‘just’ the liquid blood cells are suspended in basically.

according to the blood donation center, it takes about 48 hours to replace the plasma you lost.

it takes months and months to recover from that

No it doesnt - the fluid compartment of blood is replaced pretty quickly.

How much cash do you get for selling it? What are the dangers?
