How easy to fit two bikes in a Honda CR-V?

I choose not to drive much - - I live in a city and don’t have a garage so I choose not to own a car. I regularly use Zipcar for some weekend trips with the bikes throughout the summer and just noticed that they no longer have Honda Elements in their fleet (I am bummed!!!). I can roll my bike into a Honda Fit without taking either wheel off but on all of these trips my boyfriend will accompany me and I know from experience that two folks, two bikes, and all of our gear is tight (but do-able) in the Fit - - Will it be easier in the CR-V? I’m assuming I won’t be able to just roll my bike in like I can with a Fit or an Element, that’s not really a big deal - - just wondering how many folks with the CR-V travel with multiple bikes inside the vehicle regularly? I could switch my resservation to a Ford Escape if need be - - are those any easier to load two bikes into?

Thanks in advance for any anecdotes of personal experience with the CRV or the Ford Escape!

its easy, both wheels off, stack them against the rear seat.

I drive a 2008 CRV. By putting the 1/2 of the back seat down (very easy to do) we’ve fit 3 bikes in the back without removing any wheels.

Part of the reason I bought the car was because its easy to lug my bike around in it.

I have a 2010 CRV and have to take off the wheels. How do you do it?

Back wheel in first and then turn the handle bars up. If we have more than one bike, I put a packing blanket in between them.

So long as the back seat is down I have more than enough room.

Can you take pics with one bike in and two bikes in the CRV? Pics say a 1000 words. THANKS!!

I prefer to just take the wheels off…then other luggage fits easier. Sometimes I will take just the front wheel off, since that is quicker and a little easier. 2 bikes should be easy if they are medium or smaller frame by just taking the front wheels off. I also have a heap bike hitch carrier, but I prefer the bikes inside the car.

A nice feature is that if you want more hight in the cargo area, you an alternately flip 1/3 or 2/3’rds of the seats forward, rather than just fold them forward. The CR-V has one of the larger and most flexible cargo areas of the compact CUV’s. Too bad mileage isn’t 2-3mpg higher, and it had another 15ft-lbs of torque and/or a 6th gear for better acceleration. It’s adequate, but not great.

Actually with gasoline prices being a little high, when I’m going to tri’s I may use our Nissan Alitma and just take both wheels off and put the bike in the trunk.

I fit 2 in there all the time, only front wheels come off. Plenty of room for bags and gear. Just put the rear seats down and you have enough room for just about anything you can imagine.
