I mistakenly hit the “watch thread” button and now receive updates on the thread everytime someone posts. I don’t want to watch any threads.

You can click on the link in your email & it takes you to the thread, you should see a box in the bottom right to unwatch, I believe.
Otherwise, go to ‘View My Profile’ > ‘Profile Settings’ > ‘Watched Threads’ > Tick Box, Then click unwatch.
Click on profile setting on top of page, then go to watched threads, check the box next to the thread then click on stop watching selected threads on the bottom

Where is this “watch thread” button you speak of?
At the top of the thread. There is a box to click. At that point, anytime someone replies to the thread, a notification is sent to you. It could be cool if you want to be notified, but in my instance, I didn’t 
What has been seen, cannot be unseen.
