Cute joke. But I resent that sentiment. I’ve got several Ironman races under my belt and 99% of the people I interact with on a daily basis have no idea. There are some of us us are actually proud of the fact that we can accomplish an Ironman finish as a “hobby” and do it in a way that doesn’t impact other areas of life. Other people I work with have interests in photography, dance, racing cars, or playing golf. I happen to swim, bike and run. I do it in my free time. No need to tell the world about it.
Does Slowtwitch really need another thread like this?
great, i offened someone and now i am going to get Banned from ST!
as an Ironman myself… i find it hilarious!
it’s just a one line joke that i heard from a runner friend of mine not a debate. jeez
what has happened to this place?
Because they start pacing the floor and checking their heartrate every minute.

Your user name is Iron Buckeye.
Irony.
Jay
Haha, and don’t worry too much about whether the ironmen will let you know. If they don’t they likely have a couple of friends who will start talking about them.
They wear a T-shirt that says “You do marathons? How cute!”

You weren’t 1 line into your reply and you had to slip in that you were a multi-time IMer…

I totally agree. Ironman and triathlon is a hobby. I’m not a fan of the triathlon lifestyle some live. i have too many other interests and not enough time.
I think some of the reasons people need to announce their accomplishments is they need validation. Personally, my validation comes from within, i don’t need my friends and coworkers telling me how awesome i am and how much I rock. This is for the people who post every workout on facebook. In fact, I’m kind of embarrassed to talk about triathlon.

Or they make youtube clips like this one.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0RgL-85b8U
Actually the clip is so bad that I can’t help but like it, in a weird I want to hit my head against a wall kind of way.

Come on, the doods name is “Griz”. He is nothing but awesome.
I just had to pick my jaw up from the floor.
I believe these junks are funny. Some are way too true and for others they are not representative.
IM is such an individual deal. Some love to brag and some keep it hush hush. I don’t tell people I do it, unless they ask. If they want to talk about it then I love to tell them about IM. Most people cannot fathom doing an IM and seem genuinely interested. I do not post any of my workouts and really do not like talking about myself.
On the other hand, I love to wear my IM t-shirts and other clothing. IM is very personal for me. Thru IM training, I have lost 70 pounds and continue to keep it off and stay very healthy. I love what the training has helped me accomplish. Because of this personal accomplishment, I love to wear my finisher shirts. I don’t care if other IM athletes see it as stupid or me advertising for WTC. IM is all about the battle within yourself and I am enjoying every bit of it. Plus, after losing 70 pounds, none of my old t-shirts fit anymore.
