I have a HED third brake lever on HED handle bars on P3 Cervelo bike on the right extension. This brake adds tension to the rear break cable and the rear brake does not have enough spring tension reopen after being closed. I have tried redoing the cables and position of the HED brake attachment but this did not work. I’m now on my second pair of brakes – Dura – Ace 7800 but the rear break still does not have enough spring tension to reopen. Is there a way add an extra heavy duty spring to a Dura Ace 7800 brake or another brake with more spring tension or better cables? other ideas?
I have mine hooked up to the front brake and it works well. The shorter cable run and having the smooth pull straight down seems to help. The coupling device is right about the normal cable entry point.
I have exactly the same setup and the same problem. I don’t think the issue is the brake or the cables (I use Nokons) but the cable splitter itself - it’s just “draggy” and as you accumulate road shmutz it gets very sticky. I have found giving it a good scrub with simple green and then a shot of lubricant helps a lot though it still won’t snap back like my main vision levers (which also rely on the calliper springs). As long as the calliper opens enough to clear the wheel I’m generally happy - they return to place properly the next time I use the main rear lever.
Don’t have experience with these, but curious. Do you have one on both front and back? Or just back? I would think just front would be a better solution.
You can solve this pronblem by putting the third brake lever on the front. I’ve run it there for years without a problem.
I have mine on the back. It took a while to find an orientation that allowed the splitter to freely return. I do lightly spray it (splitter) with a silicone lube before most rides.

Thanks for the info, I went with Nokons cables and put the brake on the front brake cable and it works great and seems ride fine
