I was going to order the saltstick dispenser to carry on my bike during races but wanted to see how other fellow STer carry their salt. Is it worth the ~$23 or is there a better/easier way to carry them. I don’t have a bento box and don’t plan on carrying one on my bike and no zip lock bags as I am trying to make my transition as easy and fast as possible and don’t want to bother opening a zip lock bag while flying on the bike
Last year during one race, I noticed one pro had bunch of them on some kind of I think double taped on his aero bar. Anyone tried anything like that and if so, do they stay in place and not dissolve from water splashing or sweat?
I used a small bento box and just put them in there without a plastic bag. It is easy to access while riding and was not a problem. I did not put them in my back pockets because they would have dissolved from the sweat. I just unzipped the box and pulled one out every twenty minutes. I had no issues at Lake Placid.
i’ve also struggled with a good solution to this… so i just end up skipping the salt tabs as a result. i should probably just figure something out as i sweat like crazy and surely could use some salt.
i even have some mini M&M containers that i stole from the kids, just can’t seem to bring myself to throwing them in my pocket.
i like the two face tape idea, have to try that one out.
Mine slides right into my profile design aerobar. I removed a plug, put a little electrical tape around the dispenser to make the diameter match the aerobar and voila. It’s perfect.

How does that work when both ends of both bars have something going through them? Sifter on the front, cable out the back. Pretty standard arrangement on most Tri bikes these days.
I use the double sided scotch tape method and it works great. Just one short piece of tape with 5 or 6 tablets on it on top of my base bar. I usually stick a few extras on there. Every now and then one or two might bounce off with a big bump, but not often and not many.
X1 on the M&M container- snap cap attached, save yourself $23. For “Plan B” I put a few in a tiny 2x2’ ziploc bag in case I loose my main source. I used to use the baggies, but they can be a pain to fumble with in on the bike or when deep in the pain cave running.
I would think the tape to the bar thing would be a mess if there was even a small amount of rain or moisture.
I stopped taking electrolytes entirely, bumped up my training intensity and have not had cramping issues since changing to this higher intensity protocol twice a week.
Tim Noakes just came out with a good book a few weeks ago called “Waterlogged”. Might be worth reading.
Buy this Styptic pencil at your local pharmacy for a few cents. Remove the salt that is in it and replace with your Thermotabs, Endurolytes or salt pills. Water proof even, I have done IM swims with two of them in my pocket under my wetsuit.
First, you go to Wal Mart and get 100 tiny plastis bags (jewelry bags sold in the crafts department). As I later found out, these are the same bags used frequently by drug dealers so you’ll probably end up on some watch list somewhere, but as long as you’re not actually slingin dope, you should be okay.
Then, I put one pill in each bag (at 200+ mg, I only need one an hour) and tape the first bag to my frame, tape the second bag on top and so on. As I grab each bag and rip it from my top tube the bags open, I take the pill and stuff the trash in my shorts. No need to open anything at all.
My problem with this set up is, that looks too much like a turbo or NAS booster button. If I wasn’t “boosting” down the course, I’d be pretending they were aero bar mounted guns and I was shooting the people ahead of my like James Bond.
