How do you bounce back? Set PRs!

Warning: Self-fellating to follow

After Wildflower I posted on here bitching and moaning about a punctured tire derailling my “A” race and a sub-par attempt to save the weekend by racing the OLY on Sunday. I was, rightfully so, the recipient of my fair share of “quit being a whiner, it could be a lot worse.” I also received some good feedback and a few people encouraging me to stay at it and focus on what’s next.

Well after taking a couple weeks off and then getting back into it I have been training pretty well for the past couple months. The only problem is I haven’t raced and didn’t have anything planned til a half-mary and Santa Barbara Tri next month. Deicded I needed to see where I’m at so I signed up for a 10K this morning.

My previous PRs were 20:04 for a 5K last fall and probably a 41-42min 10K. Todays 5K split was a 17:55 and the 10K was 36:58! I know this isn’t quite ST fast, but needless to say I’m stoked and this definitely beat back the doubts I was having about my current fitness.

So for those of you that gave me the helpful advice, whether it was quit bitching and train, or keep your head up and don’t let one bad race stop you…thanks!

Now for the question…can I consider myself a runner with these times? hahaha

First, congrats, that’s a pretty awesome PR improvement.

Second, I would bet that based on your 10k time, you can probably put out an even faster 5k time.

Thanks! I am intrigued to see what I could do for a standalone 5K b/c I was feeling really good through the first 3.1 today.

Two minutes of improvement over 5k in one year is ridiculously good… nice work!
