How do runners deal with chafing?

Being a triathlete, I’m used to running in tri shorts and compression tops. Worked great. Little to no chafing issues. Starting to run in running short and running tops, and how the hell do you runners deal with chafing?! Do you put band aids on the nipples for every run? What kind of underwear are you supposed to use under running shorts? Help me out here!

Body Glide has never failed me in like 20 years using it. Running, riding, triathlon, etc. also wear tighter shirts that don’t bounce around.

Try different brands of clothing. I’ve only had issues with chaffing on a few occasions and I narrowed it down to a certain brand. Guess the material they used was slightly more abrasive to my sensitive areas. Another vote for body glide as well, it’s good stuff.

Why don’t yourun with your Tri outfit then?
Or wear tights or 2 in one shorts?
I put tape on my nipples for marathon.

When it gets humid I always wear tri shorts and a tank top or no shirt. This means no running shorts for a good 4-5 months of the year. I also use Body Glide on longer runs. Running shorts that I use always have a built in liner, so I never wear underwear with them.

I’m on the line between men’s small and medium in most brands and have always bought medium. This year, it was time to replace some shorts, and I bought smalls and have had much better luck with preventing chafing. I have a variety from Nike, Brooks, and New Balance. As much as I hate to admit it, I got talked into the Fast & Free 3” short from Lululemon. They’re stupidly expensive, but they’re my new favorites. No chafing, and great support. Just hope that one pair lasts forever.

No shirt for me all summer. If it’s cool enough for a shirt, I’m likely in tights. Never chafed up top.

This. Cheap, easy, no thought required solution that works.

I mainly run in 2-in-1 shorts now. Asics Essentials are my preferred ones. Ripped the brief out of all my normal running shorts and pull them over tri shorts when I run off the bike in town because nobody need to see me in lycra if it can be avoided.

Body Glide (triceps where they brush my torso, nipples, inner thigh)

No underwear (assuming the shorts have a liner…if not use compression shorts underneath)

Some folks also use it on arches, achilles, and between toes for blister prevention.

No underwear.

Vaseline
.

Vaseline for me as well.

Almost 50 years of running NEVER had chaffing

After reading all the above

guaranteed I’ll fell chafing next time I run

😂

Yeah, don’t wear tri shorts for running in public unless you are racing or wearing them under shorts. Just don’t be that guy. If you do decide to do this anyway, man up and channel your inner Dave Scott - briefs.

Body Glide or Vaseline. And once you lose a couple of pounds (not saying you need to, just my experience) the chafing will probably go away anyway.

Yeah. No Cotton. No Underwear (wear lined shorts). Everything should fit right. If it’s a race or over 10 miles, nothing wrong with some lube or taping the nips.

Lycra Compression underliner whatever shorts.

Fitted top when it’s cooler… No top in the summer. Loose tops that can bounce when you run will chafe the nips. Tighter is better.

I run 90mpw per above with no chafing.

I live in dc where it’s a swamp in the summer. I body glide before every run and on anything over 75 mins I add Vaseline to my inner thighs.

I typically run in Nike aeroswift, and there isn’t much lighter, for harder and longer efforts and occasionally I will still get some chaffing. Sucks but I guess I’m just used to it as this point.

Sucks because I have a fair amount of track Smith stuff but if I’m wearing that for anything over 8 miles even at 6 in the morning I’m opening myself up for a solid inner quad chaf burn.

I’ve never had a problem with chafing. Maybe I just select the right garments?

Bag Balm. Rite Aid, CVS, Walgreen’s…big green can of it. Of course the material the shorts are made of and length have a lot to do with it too. So does the amount of inner thigh leg chub if you have any.

And yet, people all over the world run in tights without the sky falling down or the public giving a flying frak.
