How do i know if my hub is 11-speed compatible?

i have a stinger 6, circa 2011 and a CK R45 rear hub. How do i know if i can do 11-speed (thinking sram here) on my current hubs? Does anyone have a list showing compatibility?

Hopefully the folks at HED can reply, so we get horse’s mouth.

11 speed requires 1.8mm more depth to the freehub, so if you currently have need >=1.8mm of spacers on the hub (behind the cassette) to run 10-speed you’ll be OK.

thanks for the answer. didn’t know that it would differ by 1.8mm

I just got off the phone with CK, and while it’s possible to do a retrofit, it’ll be a damn expensive retrofit, probably $180-200 for the parts and labor costs.

Don’t remember exactly, but it’s more than $200 for a CK…

The HED Stinger is probably not (not from 2011 at least). Before Shimano announced the new hub (Which SRAM will now be using as well for their 22) the only manufacturer that had a free-hub that was compatible was Mavic. With Mavic, you’ve always had to run the “Mavic spacer” as well as the super thin Shimano one if using one of their cassettes.

thanks.

just called up HED earlier today and was told that a conversion was doable for $180. This conversion thing may just be a bit too expensive for me as there are only two races for which an extra cog comes in handy, and i could just use a 11-32t for them.

What are you looking at 11s for. i agree that 180 seems like a lot but you will also need a new cassette/chain and new shifter Its basically going to be $700 at the low end to change.

well, there’s also the cost to retrofit the rear wheel of my training wheel. Assuming i pay $450 for the shifters, $300 for the cassette, and $250 for the RD and sell my current set up for $600, it’ll be a $800 upgrade for just one bike.

to be honest, there are only 2-3 races where i may be turning over the 34x28t at 65rpm and hoping that i had a 34x32 that would allow me to go at 75 rpm. Much cheaper for me to get the long cage RD and 11-32t climbing cassette as opposed to upgrading to 11s that keeps the ratio of a 10s 11-28t and adds a 32t.
