How do I know if I've broken a bone in my foot

it’s on the bottom of my foot right in the middle of the pads. would I be able to walk if something was broken. hopefully it’s just a bone bruise cause I can’t lost any more training time. painful but not unbearable

thanks in advance
Barry

i think the only definitive answer is an x-ray.

Be careful… leading up to Boston this year, my buddy (renorider on here) had an annoying twinge in his foot (it was a stress fracture). At the race, he was on pace for a 2:37 finish and 19 miles in the bone snapped. He still finished in 2:47 but now he is in a big boot… Here’s the x-ray:

Ugh…that looks painful

Depending on the bone and the type of break you can walk and run on it. Lots of things can feel like a break though. If you want to compete at a decent level in this sport for a long time I’d find out whats going on.running with certain injuries can turn something relatively minor into a much bigger issue.

If your a Pro with a major race coming up then it may be worth the risk but for a hobby its really not.

the pain prob depends on which bone is broken. doesn’t have to be super painful even if it is broken. be smart. take some time off - if it doesn’t get better, get an x-ray

The radiologist that interprets the x-ray that you’re going to have will tell you! Then again, pain where you describe it sounds like a possible Morton’s Neuroma. Either way, you need a Dr and not slowtwitch.

So how much training time do you think you’ll lose if it’s a stress fx and you make it worse?

Funny that I clicked on this thread and Ed had already beat me to it
