Mindblowing.
There is water at the bottom of the ocean, I know that much
.
The ocean is as scary as outer space. Why anyone would join the navy is beyond me. It’s terrifying!
“Sponges grow in the ocean. That just kills me. I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be if that didn’t happen.”

Navy is one thing - submarines are a whole other thing, entirely
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
I guess I always felt the ocean is unfathomably deep…
Living close to lake superior it still blows me away that a lake can be 1,200 feet deep.
Never realized the Burj Khalifa was nearly 1 kilometer tall.
from The Tempest:
Full fathom five thy father lies;
Of his bones are coral made;
Those are pearls that were his eyes:
Nothing of him that doth fade,
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange.
quoting for sheer freaking beauty

Under the water, carry the water
.
Typing my original response made me realize the word “unfathomable” must be ocean related as in unable to measure how many fathoms you are in, and sure enough that is the origin.
Now consider that light only penetrates about 200 meters below the surface. The ocean is not only incredibly deep, but is also almost entirely pitch black.
About 11 000m

The stuff living down there is basically the sum of all fears. Anyone wondering why life moved from the water onto land, just look at what lives in the ocean and tell me you wouldn’t be motivated to get the hell out of there.

But do fish get thirsty? That’s the question.

Because they’re not bound by gravity, so have no reason for legs for locomotion, and because they have no lungs to breathe with, so have no reason for a rib cage, deep-sea fish can assume pretty much any shape one can imagine - as beautiful or as horrifying as you can devise; same with invertebrates and arthropods
Since the Ocean is mostly an undiscovered blank canvas, any design could exist and we’d never be able to prove otherwise
It’s cool you posted this as I have just recently been watching a few short YouTube videos about the Marianas Trench. 16,000PSI at that depth and complete darkness. The creatures found at that depth are also fascinating
Persian Gulf is only 90 meters. No wonder they are finding so many artifacts, ancient sites, etc., underneath as it was once above sea level.

US Navy Swim call.
I’ve done swim call middle of the Atlantic and the Med.
