I seriously aggravated a tendon running into my left hip a week ago. No pain whatsoever when swimming or riding, but running is extremely painful when I land on that leg. I’ve still been swimming and riding as normal, and it’s slowly feeling stronger. Does anyone think the pain-free riding and swimming are helping the healing process (active recovery) or mildly inflaming the problem? Lastly, would hip strengthening exercises (light squats, hip flexor exercises) be a good thing or keep aggravating it?
btw, anyone have a similar injury (hip tendon problem, painful running, fine swimming and riding)?
I had the same last January. I had a mild crash when a car did a U right in front of me and I went into a slide trying to keep from going in front of him. I think I must have tightened the right hip flexors/adductor when I went down on that right hip.
Anyway, it was as you describe. Pain in the right antero-medial hip when I landed on the right foot running. Kicking hurt a little, too. I rode and swam, mostly with a pull buoy. After 3 weeks I was able to resume running in time to save my IMAZ.
ART, active release technique. I had hip issues that kept me from running this past December and January. I got 2 ART treatments and was running again. I also noticed that pilates helps a lot. I have a dvd that I try to do a couple of times a week (I had stopped doing it when my hip issue started). I have no clue which exercise on the dvd helps, but it makes a difference.
i’ve been dealing with hip flexor tendonitis from hell for a while now, and am finally sorting it out. it is usually caused by a muscle weakness - cycling and running makes the quads/hamstrings really strong, but since there is no lateral movement (think soccer or playing defense in basketball) the inner and outer hip muscles get weak. stretching has helped, as well as excersizes with a theraband. anything that works your front and side hip muscles should help stabalize your pelvis and support that hip. good luck
testosterone and Jack Daniels (whiskey that is, not running book). But seriously, my wife had the same issue also and I second the water, and injections helps also.
