Hotel charging sockets

is it appropriate to kvetch that so often they’re so far from the bed? Is this ridiculously hard to reconfigure? Do you ever use a battery as a workaround in evening time?

a totally first world problem but that’s why we’re here

You must be travelling to a different part of the world than me.

Literally travelling on 4 continents with business many times a year, and never experienced this problem. Maybe not a bad idea charging your phone a bit away from where you sleep anyway

you’re right – but Dan Carlin (and other podcasts) are my go-to sleep aid. It’s good to know that the places i’m not going are doing it right!

Can’t say I’ve had the issue of an outlet not being close by the bed.

I’ve had the issue of the outlet either not working, or the plug ins being too loose.

Definitely a first world problem.

I feel like every hotel I’ve stayed at in like the last decade+ has an outlet and USB port in the bedside lamp.

We’ve been to a few boutique hotels the past couple of years and my issue is there’s not always outlets on both sides of the bed. That’s annoying.

That was definitely a good alternative when everything was USB. Unfortunately USB-C is more common now.

Maybe I’m missing the point but can you not just plug a square into the lamp with a USB-C port?

I meant that in the instances where there wasn’t also a standard outlet but only the USB.

I stay in a lot of hotels and have this issue a few times a year. It is frustrating. Also frustrating is how loose many of the sockets are.

i am so happy to rile you early in the morn

This was our issue in London a week or so ago – USB and electrical only on my wife’s side of the bed.

I just charged my stuff in the morning before we went anywhere.

Gotta get the blood flowing

The other issue I’ve found in hotels like this is that then that usually means there’s a shortage of outlets in the rooms in general.

Its dumb to have to plug my phone in the bathroom, snake behind the tv/dresser, leave it on the floor, or unplug a lamp.

This.

All the hotels I stay in have outlets on the bedside lamps.

i’ve unplugged lamps at Hiltons. Old properties, coasting on proximity to airport in one case, but at those rates that’s ridiculous

And this SHOULD be the standard.

Same for me - In different Hotels all over the place for Business 1 - 2X a month. Most places now have a light stand, or some other plug in charge port for USB right on the bedside table. Last thing I do before I go to bed - set Mobile Device alarm, plug in and go to sleep!
