Hooker elite on ebay

not mine, but looks pretty sweet. http://cgi.ebay.com/Hooker-Elite-Cat-I-54cm-Road-Frame_W0QQitemZ140072658081QQihZ004QQcategoryZ98084QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The last time I enjoyed the company of an elite hooker I paid a hell of a lot more than $25.

What is up with those fake Delta brakes? They don’t look functional. Love the butcher knife seatpost though.

Dang, fooled again! I thought it said elite hookers.

the fix on the cracked aluminum seattube looks a bit scary to me- yikes. can you really just dab some welding material on a crack like that?

Those aren’t fake Deltas. Those are Hooker propietary center pull brakes. They are actually quite rare.

My Hooker also developed a crack near the b.b. It was repaired by Hooker by rewelding followed by another heat treatment. I would be concerned about the integrity of the repair on this bike only if the latter were not done. (It would certainly look better if they’d ground off the excess material as they did on mine, though.)

All this talk about crack and hookers is going to make me fall off of the wagon.

And probably could be sold for $250 each.

I have Campagnolo Delata brakes that are in very good condition, only slightly used.

How would you appraise them?

I have the brake levers as well.

A client of mine hired a welder to fix a crack in the same area. But, without having it heat treated, it could not be saved. He ended up just using it on the trainer.

On a side note, I still own one of those hooker break-away bars that were made for drop-style handlebars. It’s going on my track bike

Just take alook at similar Deltas on eBay. They go for a couple of hundred per set (I’ve seen some still in the box go for well over 500.) Lots depends on the model and the use.

I was considering a set to have on hand in case I needed a new rear for my Zipps, but decided against it. They don’t stop real well and I think I can get a new style brake caliper to fit if I have to.

Right now I have all Zipp brakes in the rear and DA in the front.

and damn you for sharing - I was hoping to pick that up cheap, but now gary is bidding…

I sold Deltas recently for $300 but they were almost pristine. The levers are probably worth $85 if they’re in clean condition.

Interesting to read Jobst Brandt’s take on the Delta brakes - he considers them dangerous to the point that it’s “unconscionable” to sell them.

Pfffft, buy a Volvo wagon if you want a safe ride. Deltas are for displaying in your China cabinet; right next to the Fabriche eggs.

I prefer my Scott Rakes: the greater “throw” allows you (or at least me) to assume a more aero position.
