55 Ironman spots were given out…ST’er Hairy Legs got one! I got to mark his age group on his calve in the morning…his legs are really hairy!

Absolutely great race, for all you mainlander ST’ers out there, if you want to ever race on part of the Ironman Kona course without all of the stress and hassle of doing the big dance, I highly recommend this race for 2005. Beautiful swim (just north of Waikoloa), great bike (little more hilly and less stark lava field scenary than Keauhou), and nice cross-country type run on grass and golf cart path. And the awards banquet afterwards was first class – cold Kona Brewery beer and live band played for us stragglers left long after most people went home to shower. Very nice execution for the inaugural race.
