Homemade tire / rim air management (Mavic CX01)

So I was reading about the CX01 air blades… basically these are strips of plastic designed to improve airflow at the tire / rim interface.

It seems logical, but got me wondering… has anyone tried to improvise something like this with other tire and rim combinations - maybe using some kind of tape or even sealant?

I guess it might be challenging to come up with something that doesn’t interfere with the brake track or that has to be (semi-) permanently applied.

The benefit would need to be pretty great I suppose…

people have used glue/caulk type stuff on tubulars to do this for years.

some clincher tires like the aero-wing tires from bontrager accomplish this with little flaps on the tire

The benefits are not generally huge. Mavic has an entire tire-wheel shape thing going on which does seem to work out pretty well. Better aero than the zipp 808 in some independent tests. But, that tire has bad CRR. How good is it with other tires? The snap on wing still works.
