Are you high ? If McFadden has good day, he can outbike-run anyone in the sport including Reid (look at IMC 2002 results). Too bad he gives away 10 min in the swim though. My money is on McFadden to podium with Cam Brown and Stadler taking the gold and silver.
I have to second the Stadler choice. He is one pissed off german who can bike. But Anderson cna swim and really bike so I bet you we will see them blasting that bike course. However, it always comes down to a running race which is something Cam Brown can do. If there is no drafting, I mean, stagger rule, like there was in Hawaii then Stadler will take it.
Stadler lost against Brown at Ironman Germany and Hawaii. He also never raced this early in the season. Perhaps he improved his bike skills a bit this year, because he trained with Team Telekom during the winter. But he has to lead at least 10-15 minutes after the bike to win against Brown.
Does Gordo race for New Zealand or Canada? I know he lives here in NZ much of the year, but I think he’s really a Canuck in disguise is he not? Still one fast mother tho’.
I would not look too far past Bryan Rhodes, very capable and overdue if you ask me. And he’s a Kiwi so home turf will mean something. Win it - long shot - podium - likely. I think Stadler wins with no drafting but he will have to out run Cam at home - not an easy task.
… He also never raced this early in the season. …
Actually Mr Stadler has raced “early” season races before. He won Ironman Australia in 2000 and 2001 which is only 5 weeks after IM NZ.
