Hollywood and Steroids?

Due to my wife’s recent surgery, we spent a lot of the holiday watching movies. Aside from the conclusion that Hollywood has run out of ideas, I was left with the thought that 90% of all Hollywood leading men must use 'roids or some other PED. I mean these guys are absolutely ripped.

These two went from skinny soft to ripped and back to skinny soft.

Ed Norton in American History X
Tobey MacGuire in Spiderman

“Into the Blue” stars 3 guys, Paul Walker, Scott Caan, and Josh Brolin, who all sport six-packs.

Now some people come by this stuff naturally as I had a buddy in college who never lifted and was ripped, but I think we’d be turning a blind eye (did someone say baseball?) if we didn’t think young guys with huge money riding on their looks aren’t using.

Yeah, of course their using gear. Some do alittle mini-stack of GH to lean out before a shoot.

I don’t know that a lot of actors use steroids. Seriously, they are still pretty small (compared to athletic types). I think for them, it’s the first time in their life where they’ve eaten and trained for muscle growth. Will Smith, Kurt Russell, , etc.

I know Russell said after he bulked up for (I can’t remember the title) he’d “never touch a weight again”, and seeing him on TV during celebrity golf, he has stood by his word on that.

Seriously, many movie stars are not “big guys” 5’10 170 pounds (look at Stallone for example). They are muscularly lean which displays an image that is much larger than there real-life self (bodybuilding fans can point out Shawn Ray as an example).

In other words, stand Toby McGuire or Brad Pitt next to Vin Diesel (or your average pro/college football player) and it won’t look like they’re using steroids. Stand them next to a leading lady or hand-picked co-stars, and they’ll look bigger than they are.

Norton in AHX is an example of Rx use (IMO) … compared to his following role as “Worm” in Rounders.

I think, for most actors, since they start out generally lean, it’s not that difficult to add some quality muscle and almost completely trnasform their appearance. 10 pounds of muscle is A LOT.

If actors are using steroids, and assuming they’re “getting good stuff”, I’d expect some of the guys to be larger than they are. There’s probably more steroid users in a typical high school gym than there are in hollywood (oops, did I just say that out loud?)

Yes, but Ryan, I don’t think the Hollywood crew would be on juice year 'round. So, they wouldn’t be on long enough to get really big, but rather just enough to look good.

also keep in mind all that hollywood actors and actress have to do all day is work on looking good. Having a chef cook all your meals is probably the norm. Actors also have all day to work out and get fit with the help of trainers. No real job to go to. I would bet that anyone here with the time (time to workout as a job essentially) and a personal chef could look great.

Who’s being naive, Kay?

mmmm, steroids.

I’m gonna go eat some McDonalds chicken now.
