Do Hoka shoes give you blisters when sockless? Which models have you tried?
I searched the forum and found a handful of reports of blisters from seams in Hokas, and one report of no problems. I’d be interested to hear from a few more people about experiences running sockless in them to build a better picture, please.
Until a recent ankle injury I’d been mostly very happy with the somewhat-thin Saucony Mirage but now I think I might exacerbate the injury less with a Hoka than with a more traditional thick shoe like the Saucony Hurricanes I’m currently trying. FWIW, the Mirages don’t give me sockless blisters, but the Hurricanes do.
Thanks!

I run in the Stinson Tarmac and it took me a little time to get used to running in them without socks. I’ve found that for less than 5 miles I can go without socks as long as I put body glide on my feet and the shoes. I’ve done a coupe of sprints without socks and haven’t had any issues. I’m going to take the time to put socks on for my next Oly and 1/2. Last 5 mile run I did without socks would have been bad if I went any further. The shoes rub for me on the edges of my ankles and the outside of my pinky toes. I different set of laces might help.
I ran in Saucony Ride 5’s before and they were great running sockless in. Knee injuries put me into the Hoka’s and I really like them.
I’ve run the Tarmacs sockless and really wasn’t much of a transition needed.
I have Conquests and tho I love them, I don’t think I can go sockless in them. There are a couple seams I can just tell will be hot spots. I also have some old Saucony Kinvara 2’s, which are beautiful sockless shoes.
I’ve run sockless for years in every shoe type I’ve owned. Since switching to Hoka’s I’ve been sockless in Bondi speed 2’s, Bondi 3’s and the new Conquest. I’ve run sockless distance up to 26.2 in the Bondi speed2 without issues … always at least 8 miles. I’ve found with ALL new shoes, if you get an unexpected rub spot, just put bodyglide on the shoe spot that rubs liberally and that softens it up quickly. If a spot rubs enough to bring blood (rare event for me) … I just put paper tape on the abraded skin spot as well as bodyglide on the rub spot and keep running while it heals. Also with Hoka’s … cut off those weird laces they come with and replace them with the other real laces and you’ll get a much better fit;-)
