Hi!
I´ve seen a few xterra pros transporting their bikes in hockey bags. Not sure if the wheels are also in there or not…
I was looking around and there are different kinds of hockey bags, and different dimensions.
I was wondering if anyone has used them, and what dimensions should I look for.
Thanks!
what dimensions should I look for. Do a little homework with a tape measure and your own bike for starters. Then think about it and/or look at some bags’ dimensions online, and then if you’re unsure ask for feedback on your ideas.
It’s been a while since I posted in slowtwitch. I forgot 99% of the people here are very helpful, but there is just that 1% who has nothing to contribute, but always feels like saying something.
I’ve done my “homework”. Since I’ll probably have to order the bag from overseas (I’m in New Zealand where there aren’t that many ice hockey gear providers), I wanted to make sure and get some real information from someone who has done this already, and would be nice enough to provide some feedback.

You can try tweeting AJ Baucco on twitter. He has carried his bike in a hockey bag.
I’m a hockey player myself and am currently looking at my standard size hockey bag and can’t see how i could possibly get my 56cm bike in there… perhaps a goalie specific bag. They will be larger… but to me it doesnt seem possible looking at
Hmmm. I’m looking at my various hockey bags, and at my bikes… I don’t know… my small shiv MIGHT fit in a large bag… like previous poster suggested, goalie bags are bigger (and sometimes have unnecessary compartments for your use). Frame might fit, but you’d have to wrap it in moving blankets or some thing. But wheels, bar, seat post, etc… possibly. I know that doesn’t help much, but it looks tight! You’d have to go for the biggest bag out there! Hope that helps!

Stop whining and think about what I wrote. It is helpful. Make giving help easier and the quality of help better by doing what I said. You still haven’t shared your work. We don’t know if the size of your bike, if you’re willing to take wheels off, the size of the bags you’re looking at, etc.
STer Mike Plumb used to buy these from us for his bike. 5mm of padding, wheels, etc.
I can actually provide you with some helpful insight… I travel a dozen times in 2015 with my bike in a hockey bag. I paid 1 bike fee out of 12 (thanks to the dipshits at United), and I had zero issues with the safety of the bike. Best to try to check the baggage curbside whenever possible. NEVER admit that there is a bike in there. I was saying that it was a wheelchair which would explain the wheel bag… Also, flying Southwest is ideal or any airline where you can check 2 bags for free. Then you just need to carry on the rest of your essentials.
You need a hockey goalie bag, preferably with wheels on it. You will be able to fit your bike in it but will need a separate wheel bag. You will also need some other parts. I would get 2 more straps so that you can make the bag look smaller once the bike is inside. You will also need foam / bubble wrap / Velcro / etc… Need to make sure that the bike is completely wrapped up and nothing is exposed that can get damaged.
Take off wheels, pedals, bars, and derailleur.

Here is the bag you want:

I’m guessing they’re using a goalie hockey bag, which is larger then a players bag.
