It is a dangerous world out there. Bill was a friend, teammate and one very passionate racer. He leaves behind a wife and three young boys under the age of 10. Please keep his wife and children in your prayers and be safe.
I drove by and saw emergency vehicles blocking Jay at 28th. I knew it must have been bad and I hoped it wasn’t a cyclist. Looked it up when I got home and saw the bad news.
I ride that section of Jay almost everyday.
It’s getting bad out there. I don’t know what we do about it. I’m starting to lose faith in humanity.

She is definitely a narcissistic party-girl and self-described princess who feels she is to be taken care of no matter what she does, gleened from her Facebook page. Look at the comment she made on the photo with daddy.

no matter how safe you are you cannot fend off these drivers.
i was even further saddened that this is the 3 cycling fatality in the area in the last several months. I have never been to boulder mut I understand it is a tri/ cycling mecca. If drivers are not used to bikes there, where can you be safe on a road. I dont think you can.
trainer and trails for me.
We’ve had more than our share of troubles in Michigan during the past few weeks…plenty of friends are talking about staying off the roads now.
In BC for vacation this week - the biking scene seems incredible. Vancouver was a very bike-friendly city, beyond just the sea wall. All the bike lanes, shared lanes, etc. Then driving up to Whistler I was just amazed with all the dozens of cyclists on the road. Not huge shoulders, but big enough and smooth. Lots of share the road, etc. signs.
I have no idea how BC cycling stats compare to others, but my limited sample certainly indicates that bikers are expected and included in the fabric. Chicken and egg - did the mass of bikers come first and create those conditions, or did the conditions create the mass of bikers or a bit of both?
I want what they have in Michigan. I see plenty of barriers, but being on the road (in a safe manner) has to help, right?

And discouraging, as those of us in less ‘bike-friendly’ areas point to places like Boulder as examples of how it could be better. Except that apparently it’s not.
Obviously she isn’t going to learn her lesson, and I really hope they charge her with something major. Makes my like that judge that gave the guy a life sentence for hs 8th, maybe 9th DUI.

The fact of the matter is that it isn’t.
Here’s why: There are jerks on both sides of the issue.
There are jerky drivers, we all know about that. In some cases it’s just a jerky driver in the wrong place at the wrong time. Such is this case. Maybe we can do something about this, drunk driving, with maximal penalties. Loss of license for life after the first offense. Now, we’re legalized marijuana as well. So, it’s not getting better.
But, there are also jerky cyclists. Sometimes we’re in the wrong place at the right time. Maybe we’re riding in the lane to avoid glass and it looks like we’re just being careless. Sometimes people are just blatantly making bad choices. With the substantial number of cyclists in the Boulder area, we have a large number of jerky riders.
Now these jerky riders make it bad for the other riders. They piss off drivers and the drivers become jerky drivers despite not being jerks in real life. There are times when I am frustrated by the local cyclists and I ride bikes!
Boulder has not proven themselves to be especially protective of cyclists. There are some silly projects around the city. Perhaps the most important, a protected bike line that got you into the heart of Boulder was removed after driver complaints. The other projects are silly because they serve little purpose. A new bike-friendly sidewalk in a relatively undeveloped section that ends at one of the busiest intersections in the city. Where are you supposed to go from there?
The fact of the matter is that this is a tragedy all around. A family has lost their father. A community their friend. Another family is going to lose their daughter and a young girl is sitting in jail because she didn’t have the foresight to make better decisions.
We, as a nation of people, need to stop making such poor choices.
Kuhasz previously was arrested by Boulder police on March 19 on suspicion of driving while ability impaired, a misdemeanor. She pleaded guilty and was still on probation at the time of the hit-and-run.
According to her Facebook page, she attended Louisville’s Monarch High School and Sam Houston State University in Texas.
While in Texas, she was arrested in 2013 in Montgomery County on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The charge was later dismissed. She was arrested again in 2014 on suspicion of public intoxication. The disposition of that case wasn’t immediately available.
