High blood pressure after Ironman?

I was wondering if anyone else has noticed changes in their blood pressure following an Ironman.

Before IMC this year I saw my bp drop to 127/80, which is a noticible improvement over previous readings. After IMC 140/90, and now dropping slightly but still 137/90. I will of course be taking this up with my physician, but I’m thinking that deep fatigue may be playing a role.

FWIW my time was around 13 hours, but the pace was easy, I was well hydrated and fealt great all day. I’m 43 and have completed 11 Ironmans in 11 years.

Thanks,

Bob

Bump

I always have high BP for a week or so after an IM. I push salt during the race, and as a result, I feel great and can stay hydrated and never have gastric distress, however the salt remains in my system for a while. HAve you tried pushing fluids after the race, and decreasing sodium intake?

sodium levels, caffeine intake, stress. All of em can lead to elevated bp i believe. keep a check on it and go see a md if it doesn’t return to normal.

Did the BP return to normal?
