FWIW on NPR this morning people had some severe reservations about Churchill also. But Churchill was Churchill, not Boris.
Britain appears to be enjoying their cute little experiment with nationalism/populism same as we are.
Don’t forget that its just a formality. The Queen has no real say as to who is elected PM. However, your point is taken. But not to worry, there will always be an England.

i agree. or would agree. or agree in spirit. but i must ask, churchill was a wartime PM, and then a PM from '51 to '55. and she began her queenly reign in 1952 if memory serves. so, was there some ceremonial re-asking to form a govt every so often? i’m naive to the process if so.

well that is disappointing. in a strange twist of historical roles i always thought the Queen was the country’s last line of protection from tyranny that could rise to power with minority support in a the multi party first past the post electoral system used in the UK…by refusing to approve ridiculous bills or not inviting the would be dictator to form a government. i can’t believe she would just rubber stamp really crazy stuff, there must be a limit.

Strictly speaking, yes she can, in reality, no she can’t.
Let’s put it this way, if the Queen did something like that it would be the beginning of the end of the monarchy. The monarchy exists only due to funding from central government. If a government felt its power was being curtailed by the monarchy, it would remove funding and would almost certainly start the move towards getting rid of it, on the basis that it no longer serves a purpose.
What must be remembered is the UK does actually have 4 branches of government, the house of commons (MPs), the house of lords (i.e. the second chamber that does have the power to block stupid legislation), the supreme court (the entity that interprets what law actually means) and the monarchy (a token establishment with token absolute power). There is a never ending struggle between the first three, with each thinking the other over steps its powers. As we don’t have a formal constitution, the roles of each branch are more like a venn diagram than three completely separate entities.
And, of course, traditionally the UK monarchy was the tyranny that the current setup ousted. The irony is not lost on many on that front.
And, finally, in answer to the OP’s question, surely it’s got to be:

Lows - Paris, August 1997 (very pink - clearly a high)
The fact that there is a real possibility that Jeremy Corbyn will be kissing her hand whilst she is still alive
Actually even the house of Lords whilst it can block stupid legislation won’t, after several readings it would let almost any though if it came from HOC for same reason queen won’t interfere
