Yes I realize you cannot hide them. But does anyone actually know why?
Yes I wish I had this feature, but would like to hear the counter argument, preferably if Strava has an opinion on why.

i have no idea, but i’d guess simply because no one asked for it / thought it was important.
don’t want your boss to see your midday workouts?
Funny. My former boss was also a runner and Strava user. In the 3 years we worked together, we never followed each-other on Strava.
Bit of a don’t ask, don’t tell situation.
Is the enhanced privacy and privacy zones not sufficient? With the enhanced privacy, only those people you approve to follow you can see your activities…thus see your start times.
Also, from what I gather, if you ride with someone that you have not approved as following you, they can see that one specific activity you rode with them, but they can’t see your start time. At least that’s the way it works for me when I ride with people that require a follow request (enhanced privacy).
Unlikely as I see a lot of feedback to Strava to add that feature for the day time workers who want to hide their mid day runs.
Just make your workouts private if you don’t want them seen.
That’s what I do.
My guess is because Strava posts all activities chronologically and thus relative start times, even if not shown, are fundamental to the basic way activities are displayed. Even if you could hide the specific start time, your activity is still going to show up in the Activity Feed of anyone looking at it in between 2 other activities. So even if the time was hidden, anyone (including your boss) who is following enough active people is going to be able to get a rough idea of the time you started just from relating your ride to the other activities in his or her feed. In sum, hiding the time does nothing to guarantee that someone else could not figure out your start time so that option would not offer any guarantee of hiding your general start time. Making individual rides private is how this is addressed for individual activities.
Ok that makes sense on why, meaning the chronology of how they post…
I’ll bite; what’s the real issue/risk you are trying to mitigate?
Simple, I work out mid day and not everyone understands that or has that flexibility yet I want to participate in the open sharing part of Strava but hiding my workouts keeps that at arm length.
Unfortunately Strava is too annoyingly public for me now. If they had some better privacy tools I would use it like I used to a few years ago. As it is I’ll just upload occasional group rides.
Tell me more, what about their privacy is to open?
say you have enhanced privacy turned on, random users shouldn’t be able to see your trainer rides. however, if you are part of a club and say your longest ride of the week was on the trainer, then the file can still be accessed. I was given “kudos” for a rollers ride by someone i don’t know and who doesn’t even live near me…
I would need something like facebook that allows you to remain friends (followers) with people but block them from seeing certain activities or data.
Ok that makes sense on why, meaning the chronology of how they post…
Because it’s basically a social media feed. People generally like to see the newest stuff at the top of their list, and the older stuff further down…in chronological order. It really wouldn’t make sense for activities from different days and times to randomly pop up on your dashboard.
Again…just used enhanced privacy or keep your rides private. The people you don’t want to see your ride times…don’t accept their follow requests. Pretty simple solution that doesn’t require additional programming or testing on Strava’s part.
While we are it can I get Strava to post some random epic workouts on my feed so I look more swoll? They can be at 3AM so people really know what’s up.

when i’ve traveled back and forth from the east coast (US) to Hong Kong, strava will have my workouts off by 12 hours at times. It’ll show me running the same exact route, at the same pace, as the guys i run with - just 12 hours earlier. (or later. i forget exactly how it all played out).
only stopped after i played with it for a while, though it wasn’t something i’d tried to make happen in the first place.
I would recommend simply not associating with such people anymore.
On a related note, a few years ago I saw that a guy I went to high school with was always doing awesome bike trips and skiing constantly. I was quite jealous and curious as to what he did for a living. It all made sense once I learned that he’s a profession cyclist!
I do use Enhanced Privacy on Strava, but don’t be lulled into thinking that it really adds much in the way of true privacy controls. Sure you can restrict followers, it limits photos. But there are many loopholes for non-followers to find your activities and see them in full detail. If you are part of a club, your activities show in that club’s recent activity feed, even if you use Enhanced Privacy. If your ride or run includes segments, someone can find your activities on those leaderboards (i.e. for this day, for this week…) and drill down on them. Yes, that means your boss can figure out if you’re taking a long mid day ride.
Making each activity private is the only option to truly control your privacy on strava…and what’s the fun in that
